---"Why do we even need more furniture?" Scott groans, tired of watching Mitch look at different pieces of furniture. The brunette just glances at him and chuckles.
"Because, Scott, we're getting a bigger and completely new place." Mitch says, taking his boyfriend's hand. "So, why not have new furniture so that everything matches?"
After a little bit of discussing the couple had decided to get a new house. Scott's was big enough for all of them, they had just wanted a fresh start. That house still held so many memories for Scott, not all of which he wanted to remember. He just wanted all traces of Kayla out of his life, at least the one he could get rid of. Sadly Asher would always be part hers, not that Scott had heard from her since the trial.
"I'm bored, Mitchie" Scott whines, acting like a five year old. The brunette laughs and continues to pull Scott through the different types of furniture. Scott is whining again when he notices Mitch go completely stiff. "Baby? Are you feeling ok? You look really pale all of a sudden."
When Mitch doesn't respond Scott starts to get worried. He gently grabs his boyfriend's shoulders and turn him around. Mitch's eyes are wide and he immediately collapses into Scott's chest. The taller man is now extremely worried so he wraps his arms around Mitch and holds him close.
"What is it, baby?" Scott asks, keeping his voice low. "I can't make it better if I don't know what's wrong. Please, just tell me, Mitchie."
"H-he's back." Mitch stutters.
"Who's back, Mitchie?" Scott asks, trying to stay calm for his boyfriend.
"My ex." Mitch says, sounding terrified. "I just saw him over by the bedspreads."
"How about we get out of here?" Scott suggests, moving so that Mitch is facing his chest. Scott then starts to exit the store, giving everyone he passes a small smile. He doesn't care how weird this look right now, Scott just wants to make sure his boyfriend is ok. Once they're in the car, safely away from all people, Scott starts talking. "Do you want to talk about it?"
Mitch nods, taking Scott's hand and intertwining their fingers together. Scott then waits for Mitch to speak up. He's going to give Mitch all the time he needs. He has no idea how hard this might be for his boyfriend. Scott knows that Mitch will talk when he's ready, so he won't push him.
Mitch takes a shaky breath in and then looks to Scott. "I don't even know where to start."
"Just start at the beginning, sweetheart."
"Ok, so it all started with a boy. His name was Owen and I thought that he was perfect. In my eyes Owen could do no wrong, I was blinded by my crush towards him though." Mitch says, looking at the hand that's holding Scott's. He hadn't wanted to ever have to relive his past, yet Mitch knew it was for the best. "It didn't take long for us to start dating. Owen was my first real boyfriend, so I just trusted him.
"Everything started out fine. He would take me out to fancy dinners and Friday movies. I never once thought about how Owen might have been getting the money. When I found out I was scared to end things. Owen was in a gang, Scott. He probably still is."
"It's ok, Mitchie." Scott says, wiping away a stray tear from Mitch's cheek. "You know that i'll do everything I can to protect you."
"I appreciate it Scott but I'm not the one that needs to be protected. I'm afraid that Owen is back in town for the kids." Mitch says, putting his head in his hands. "It won't matter to him that I have full custody. Owen has never played by the rules before."
"We'll figure something out, Mitch. The past is in the past. I'll make sure that it stays that way." Scott says, resting a hand on Mitch's back. "Now, why don't we go get lunch or coffee? I want you to take your mind off of Owen for now."
Mitch nods and gives his boyfriend a small smile. Scott brushes a few more of his tears away and starts the car. They'll just have to go furniture shopping later. Mitch is in no condition to go back in there. The couple listens to quiet music as Scott drives to Starbucks. Scott hadn't been lying, he'll find a way to protect Mitch and his kids. Family is everything to Scott, he won't lose his new one.
---I hope you enjoyed the new chapter. This is his the start of a load of drama. I wish you all the best of days!
