Scott helps Asher out of his booster seat and then starts heading inside his house. Now that he's off work all Scott can think about is what Kayla wanted to talk about with him. Kayla's facial expression only makes Scott more nervous, the next words that come out of her mouth doesn't help either.
"Hey, buddy can you go to your room for a little while?"
Asher nods and runs off to his room, leaving the married couple alone. Kayla's eyes never leave Scott's as he takes his jacket off and then his shoes as well.
"Scott, you should sit down for this." Kayla says. She has an almost pained expression on her face and her voice is no better.
"Is it that bad?" Scott says. He sits on the couch across from the couch his wife is on.
"Scott..." she takes a deep breath in. "I think we need to get a divorce."
Just like that Scott's whole perfect world comes crashing down. Scott had planned to stay married for the rest of his life. Yet in less than twenty-four hours that was slipping down the drain. Scott didn't even know how to respond. Scott didn't want a divorce. He loved Kayla, she was the love of his life. They had an amazing little boy together. How could anyone just throw that down the drain?
"I'm going to let you be the main caregiver of Asher." Kayla says. "I know how much he means to you. So I'll have him every other weekend."
"What happened?" Scott manages to get out. "I thought we were happy."
"Scott, I met another guy." Kayla sighs. "I met a guy and we fell in love. I'm really sorry, Scott, but I need this to be over."
"Did you cheat on me?" Scott doesn't even want to know the answer. Yet he know's that he has to know.
"Scott."
"Did you or did you not cheat on me?" Scott says his voice rising.
"Yes." she sighs. "I'm so sorry, Scott. I really am."
"If you were sorry you wouldn't have done it in the first place and you wouldn't still be with him!" Scott says angrily. "I loved you as much as any one man could. Yet you go and do this. If you wanted I would forgive you, because as much as I want to hate you right now I don't. I love you too much to fucking hate you!"
"Scott, I get you're mad but lower your voice." Kayla says sternly. "I don't want Asher finding out like this."
"So, this is really happening?" Scott says. He still can't believe this is happening. "So, you're just going to throw away eight years of a happy marriage? What about Asher? Were you thinking about our son when you cheated!"
"Scott, I'm sorry." Kayla says. "I just don't love you anymore. I found someone else and I'm happy now."
"You weren't happy before?"
"Of course I was." Kayla says. "At least in the beginning. Then I found Daniel and everything kind of just changed."
"Ok, so we're getting a divorce." Scott says. "I'm gonna go."
"Were are you going?" Kayla says panicking. Scott starts putting his shoes and coat back on.
"I don't know yet." Scott sighs. "All I know is that I need to scream and cry and maybe even break something. So i'm going to leave for now any you're going to watch Asher while i'm gone."
Then without another word Scott just leaves the house. He starts crying the second he's in his car. Scott doesn't know where he's driving to. He doesn't know or believe anything right now. He can't, his wife wants a divorce. It's going to be a long, long night.
