Today was Scott's lunch with Kayla. To say he was nervous was an understatement. He didn't want to be alone with Kayla for over an hour. He was defiently thinking about bringing Mitch with him. The brunette had told Scott that that wouldn't make Kayla anymore pleasant to deal with. Plus, someone needed to watch the kids.

Scott was running a few minutes late and he already felt terrible about it. He had just been caught up with playing with Asher. He hadn't noticed what time it was until Mitch pointed it out to him. So Scott's hair was a little messy and he wasn't nearly as calm as he would have liked. Being late didn't help Scott calm his nerves about spending an hour with his ex.

When he reaches Starbucks, Scott can see Kayla's car parked in front of the store. It's not that busy and Scott is grateful for that. There was no garentuee that he wouldn't end up getting into a fight with Kayla. The second she said something even slightly rude about Mitch or his kids it would be on. Scott had always been protective over his family, the Grassi's were as good as family now.

The blonde enters the coffee shop and scans for his ex. He spots Kayla sitting in one of the far corners, using her phone and sipping on a large coffee. Scott rushes over to her, already forming an apology in his head.

"Kayla, I am so sorry that i'm late." He says, pulling a chair out and setting his jacket and messenger bag on the back. "I was just playing with Asher and I guess I just lost track of the time."

"It's fine, Scott." Kayla says, setting her phone down and smiling up at the blonde. "At least you were late because you were spending time with our son. Why would I ever be upset about that?"

Scott shrugs her shoulders. "I just felt bad about making you wait, that's all."

"Well, it's totally fine, Scotty." Kayla says. For some reason the use of a nickname makes Scott slightly uncomfrtrable. Yet he brushes it off because he doesn't want to overreact. "I ordered your usual for you. It should be here soon."

"Thanks, Kayla." Scott says, positioning his elbows on the square table and resting his chin on his hands. So far it was going much was going better than Scott had expected. Sadly lunch wasn't even half way over yet.

Their drinks arrive and they fall into the steady lull of converstion. It comes easily, but Scott fells as though Kayla is trying much too hard.

"I was thinking about getting a dog for Asher." Kayla says. This makes Scott's head snap up from where he had been looking at his drink.

"Kayla, you remember that he's allergic, right?" Scott says, suddenly very nervous as to how good of a parent she it.

"Of course I remembered, I was only joking around with you." Kayla says in a way that shows Scott she was neither joking around or remembered that their son was allergic. He brushes it off and they fall back into easy, boring converstion. Soon Scott's mind drifts off to Mitch.

He would much rather be spending his day off with his boyfriend. The conversation he was having with Kayla seemed forced and was bland. Mitch always knew want to say when the conversation was dying and the blonde could always make him laugh. Yet Kayla seemed to think that all of Scott's jokes were stupid and she wouldn't even pretend to laugh.

All Scott knew was he was counting down the seconds until he could leave. The lunch was so boring and repetitive that he almost jumped for joy when Mitch called him. If he had known the reason of the call he might not have been so happy about it. Scott is quick to pull his phone out of his pocket and look at the caller ID.

"Oh, it's Mitch." Scott says, looking from his phone to Kayla. He didn't want to seem rude but he defiently wanted to answer the phone. "I should probably take this. Unless you have a problem with that."

Kayla seems to bite her tongue before answering. Scott can tell that she doesn't want to respond. "Yeah, go ahead. It might be important."

"Thanks, Kayla." Scott says, accepting the call and pressing his phone up to his ear. "Hey, babe. What's up?"

"Scott... I need you to get down to the hospital as soon as possible."

"What? Why?" Scott questions, standing up and slipping his jacket on. "Who's hurt?"

"Just hurry down here and bring Kayla with you."
