Scott was watching Asher from across their table at a pizza place. Just like promised they were eating pizza and joking around. Scott had always been good at cheering Asher up, he was happy it seemed to be working right now.
"How about I go get us another cheese pizza?" Scott suggests. They had already finished the first pizza Scott had bought.
"Yay! Pizza!" Asher says, clapping his hands together. Scott chuckles and stands up, grabbing his wallet before heading towards the counter. While Scott's away he gets a text. He's about to ignore it when he sees who it's from.
Mitch:
Hey, what are you up to?Scott:
Just having some pizza with Ash before dropping him off at Kayla's. What are you doing?Mitch:
Trying to force Blake to do his homework and your extra credit assignments. It's harder than I thought.Scott:
Sorry... Anything I can do to help?Mitch:
No, I just needed to talk to someone. I think i'm about to lose my mind. Go have fun with your son though.Scott:
Ok, but if you ever need anything just ask. You're not the only one who wants to help out.Mitch:
Thanks, Scott. Now go have fun!Scott:
I will. Bye, Mitch.Over the week Scott and Mitch had already started becoming good friends. Scott was enjoying having someone to talk to. Most of his friends were to busy with wives and kids if their own. Mitch always seemed to time though.
After ordering another pizza Scott goes back to the booth and sits across from his son. Asher was drawing something with the paper and markers Scott had brought with them. After seven years of being a parents Scott knew how to keep his son occupied.
"What are you drawing, buddy?"
"A picture of you and me!" Asher says happily. "Will you hang it on the fridge when i'm done?"
"Of course, bud." Scott smiles. The fridge at their house had a special section filled just will picture's Asher had drawn. Not all of them were that good but Scott loved each and everyone of them.
The pizza arrives soon enough and they start eating again. Scott keeps pulling funny faces in between bites and Asher starts doing the same. Before they know it they're both out of breath because of how much they've been laughing.
Scott's really enjoying spending time with his son. Niether one of them have been this happy since the divorce a week ago. He knew that soon he would have to drop Ash off at Kayla's house. Scott didn't know what he was going to do without his son for a whole weekend.
"Sorry, Buddy but we need to head over to mommy's house." Scott sighs. Asher nods and starts gathering up his drawing stuff. "Here, put your coat on Buddy."
Scott helps his son into his jacket before putting his own on. The drive to Kayla's new house is quiet and Scott is dreading actually getting there. Scott parks his car in front of the right house and just looks at it for a second.
It's a one story house and Scott knows it can't have more than two bedrooms. It's painted light blue and has comically green grass. Scott already hates, then again, he had decided he would hate it before Scott had even seen the house.
"Ok, let's go buddy. Mommy's excepting you inside soon." Scott says. "Ash, don't forget you can call me whenever."
"Ok, daddy." Asher says. Scott smiles and grabs his son's hand as they head towards the front door. Scott knocks twice and clenches his jaw when a man answers the door.
"Hey, you must be Scott." he says. The man has short brown hair, green eyes, and tan skin. "I'm Daniel."
Scott glances at his outstretched hand but doesn't shake it. Luckily Kayla joins them at the door before Scott can throw a punch. Seeing her doesn't help Scott calm down any though.
"Hey, buddy." Kayla smiles. "Why don't you say bye to dad and then go inside. I want to talk to daddy for a second."
"Bye, Daddy." Ash says. Scott kneels down to give him a hug and then hands Daniel the bag of clothes Scott packed.
"I don't want to talk to you." Scott says once Asher is inside. "You tore our family apart and i'm not going to talk to you and act like we're fine."
"Scott, I just want to apologize." Kayla starts.
"Don't."
"But, Scott-"
"I said don't." he says firmly. "You cheated on me, you divorced me. How do you expect me to just forgive you? Bye, Kayla."
Just like that Scott turns on his heels and then heads towards his car. He lets the door slam behind him. Then he does the only thing he can think to do. He calls Mitch.
