With lofty aspirations
A weekly poem I'll post
Not just one year long
FIVE years I'm gonna boastCheck back each Sunday
This is number one
I'm gonna try real hard
Most should be great fun:My 180
In the past I had one goal
To capture dark and turbulent mood
Jealous of the tortured soul
Who's reading made me brood and broodUntil I happened upon
A childhood Seuss
Drear no more I'll spawn
For that writing was a ruseI quite prefer lips upward bound
A feeling of joy widespread
Youth's merry-go-round
Altering the surrounding dreadNovel notion to instill
Writing to lift the spirit
As antiquated vaudeville
Abandoned goal, I fear itFocus towards comic relief
No quagmire, gloomy, and deep
Alleviating pain ever so brief
To laugh and not weepFor others to grab and hold
Words upon a page
Faces of unhappiness to remold
Shift thinking, re-engage!No guarantee I won't digress
Deviating from Wilcox's "Solitude"
And waddle in a little mess
If only for an interlude
