Critic

Chewing repetitiously
Avoiding every mirror
Food was his comfort
Death ever nearer

All alone he sat
His weight problematic
Jaws sagging downward
Heartbeat erratic

Indulging in the finest
Chewing, gulping, biting
Multiple menu items
Mind and matter fighting

Blotchy sunless complexion
Feet swollen and inflamed
The overall picture
Massive physique acclaimed

Small childlike hands
Each movement monumental
Skillfully dissecting
Savoring, he chews so gentle

Passersby avert his eye
For fear of being devoured
One imperfect forkful
Restaurant reputation soured

His carcass jiggling
To the joy of a new dish
Every mouthful has meaning
The review wait is anguish

The temperamental chef
Perspiring to his name
Knowing what he writes
Can end his fame
