Before answering the phone I moved towards a quiet place with fewer people because I know how our conversations go.

RACHEEEEEEEEEEEEEL

MIAAAAAAAAAAA”

This was our thing whenever we greeted each other through the phone.

“Aren't you in Thailand right now? Why are you calling me?”

“Well I'm almost boarding the plane but I thought I would call you before I leave, because... well.... this might be the last time we speak to each other in the same country...

She was right.... I lived in NYC and she moved to Seoul because of her marriage. So we won't be able to see each other a lot.

“We will see each other through Skype Mia, and I'll call you every day

“You can always come and visit me here whenever you want, I don't even need to say this but my door is always open for you girl”

“I don't know... if I'm in Korea I might see stuff I don't want to...”

I felt bad saying this but it's true.

“It is difficult for me to stay here, it's incorrect Mia... But for you I did it”

“Rachel you should try and put away the bad memories of your past and start anew”

She was referring to my dad. I'm actually half Korean but I never went to visit my homecountry because he was here.

My parents' story is quite a sad one. They fell in love when my dad was studying abroad, but his parents didn't approve of the relationship, even if my mom spoke Korean perfectly and she wall well aware of their culture. They got married secretly in the States and lived happily for a few years. My dad worked at a company and my mom was a housewife. Until one day, the company my dad worked at went bankrupt and he left me and my mother alone and disappeared.

After a few years, we found out that he moved back to Korea after a disturbing phonecall of my grandma, his mother, to insult her my mom. She blamed her for what happened to my dad. It's been 15 years since we last saw him. I still resent him for doing that to my mother and me.

“I know, I know. MIA OMG YOU NEVER GUESS WHAT HAPPENED TO ME AT THE HOTEL BAR”

I quickly explained what happened yesterday to change the subject. How I fainted and how I got carried and then embarrassed myself when I tried to thank the wrong guy.

“Rachel isn't he lying? I know you were drunk but still the perfume and the shoulders.... It doesn't seem like you would make these things up”

“I don't know its all so confusing. Why would he lie about it though there's no reason? Maybe I'm just imagining things, I mean remember when...

“Rachel I need to board my plane quickly now”

“Oh okay goodbye Mia Mouse”

“I'll send you a text when I land. Love you RayRay see you soon I hope”

Now I feel sad... The bar it is then. When I walked to the bar I saw the bartender from the night before. I ran to him when he looked at me I could see the expression on his face that said “Oh no not this woman”

“Mister bartender did you carry me to my room yesterday”

“Why would I do that, I can't leave when there are still costumes at the bar” he explained to me.

“Then who carried me to my room?” I asked confused

“I don't know. His face was covered and he was wearing a hoodie so I couldn't get a good look at him” he answered.

“Was that hoodie pink? Did he smell like flowers? Did he have broad shoulders?” I asked quickly flooding the bartender with questions.

The bartender's expression was very easy to read “Wtf is she saying ?” he tried to stay polite and said that he remembered the hoodie was pink but for the rest, he didn't know. I thanked him and sat down at one of the round tables at the bar.

Why would he lie to me...?
