Annabeth's POV
I watched out of the corner of my eye as Percy went off with her friends. His new friends who don't have problems. Who don't burden him.
Arms wrapped around me, and I put on a smile. A fake smile, which Luke couldn't tell the difference from.
"Congratulations sweetie! We can go to the same college now, which means we can spend more time together!" Luke exclaimed sweetly.
College didn't excite me anymore. Not when I had to be with Luke. I knew if I suggested something different he would beat me until I agreed.
I wanted to be with Percy. To be his friend, or maybe even more. To be part of his life. For him to at least think about me.
But he was stopping everything.
