Song ~ Honne - Too Long
~
No matter how long Magnus and Alec had been together, they'd never get enough of a good date. Alec cherished each moment he had with Magnus, and Magnus liked making Alec smile. The two had scheduled a date that day, and while Alec was working away as the Head of the Institute, Magnus was doing his warlock duties. He didn't really have any duties, he did it for the payment. If he wasn't being payed he wasn't doing any magic tricks. Period.Magnus felt Alec overstep the wards an hour late, and he sighed in relief. He thought Alec had gone on a mission and gotten himself hurt or something. Alec walked through the doors, before picking up his pace and jogging to the living room where Magnus was sat reading. Magnus placed his book down, before standing and walking to Alec to press a gentle kiss to his lips. It was raining outside, and Alec smelt of it, all damp and earthy. It wasn't a bad smell, it made Magnus feel quite at home. The smell of rain and sandalwood. "I'm so sorry." Muttered a tired Alec, his chest rising and falling so quick that Magnus wondered how fast Alec had ran to get home. "Jace wouldn't stop pestering me about how Clary wanted a dog, and Isabelle was cooking, my mum was lecturing me on safe sex? She confuses me. I'm ju-" "Alexander, it's okay. You're home now. Our reservations have expired at that Thai restaurant, so we might as well go somewhere else." Magnus reassured his panicked boyfriend, and tapped his damp chest. "I should probably.." Alec trailed away before kicking off his combat boots and unbuckling his thigh holster. Magnus just watched from opposite him. Alec was like that. He undressed wherever he felt necessary then panicked because he had to walk all the way to the bedroom wearing only his underwear to pick some clothes out. "What is the dress code?" Alec muttered, only wearing his jeans, and picked up his holster. "Whatever you want, Alec. But don't wear that hideous black jumper. It's ripped." Magnus said, and Alec rolled his eyes. "It wasn't ripped when I got it." He replied with, and let out a sigh that ended up as more of a laugh. "Well you should throw it out, then." Magnus argued, amusement in the tone of his voice. "You have ripped clothes too, Magnus. Don't be difficult." Said Alec, before walking to their bedroom to pick out an outfit that didn't make him look like a homeless busker on the underground. "Mine were ripped when I bought them!" Magnus exclaimed and focused his eyes on the dip of Alec's spine as he walked off, eyelids drooping with something other than fatigue at the sight. When Alec re-emerged from the bedroom he wore black jeans that mimicked the ones he was wearing earlier, and a white linen button up that Magnus had bought for him not so long ago.
Magnus opened a portal, and when Alec reached his side he realised that Alec had spritzed some cologne on and sorted his always-mussed hair out. Alec's desperate tries to look presentable for dates with Magnus were laughable. He always looked good. The two took each other's hands and ended up at the small restaurant that seemed all too familiar to both of them. It was an Ethiopian and Italian fusion place run by downworlders and the two had visited numerous times since their first date. The restaurants visitors and staff had gotten used to this particular shadowhunter coming in with Magnus, but were wary with anyone else. They stepped through the door that had the remenants of that stupid graffiti dinosaur on, and were met with smiles from everyone, including the owner of the place, Luigi. "Magnus, Alec." He bowed his head, and directed the two to their usual table. It was a corner booth at the back. Not very appealing, but it was the booth they'd went in the first time they'd gone there, and it held a lot of good memories. Alec had even carved his initials under the table with a seraph dagger he kept in his sleeve. The place was cosy, usually packed with downworlders who wanted to chill out with their friends, although it was a nice spot for mundanes who had the sight. Ifrits worked in the kitchen, non magic warlocks, and Magnus managed to always give his respects to them. They did whip up a mean penne arrabbiata.
As the two settled in their booth, a waiter was directed toward them by Luigi, and a smile settled on Magnus' face at who it was. Erik. The little shit who spiced up Alec's food on purpose the first time they went there just because he was a shadowhunter. 'Werewolf rights' he'd called out. He'd adjusted to Alec's presence at the restaurant, and as an apology for basically burning Alec's mouth had placed a basket of injera bread on the table each time they'd gone there, completely on the house. Erik came across and placed a food menu on the table, including a drinks menu, and flashed a smile at the two before walking off to tend to a seelie couple who were arguing over who ate the last bowl of soup. Neither knew. Magnus was the first to pick up the drinks menu, and Alec smiled and rolled his eyes whilst picking the food menu up. The two scanned each menu card, before swapping and reading the other one. Alec wasn't one for alcohol, but he did like a good red wine, and Magnus got the same. They ordered two plates of the penne arrabbiata they had all that time ago, and their food and drinks were sent over quick. They were quick to eat, well Alec was, and the whole restaurant was staring. Sure they had become accustomed to Alec, but they'd never get over the fact that he, a shadowhunter, would eat with his hands. He grew up in New York, of course he was going to eat like that. Magnus picked up a piece of the spongy injera bread and held it to Alec's face. "Alexander?" He smiled, and the raven haired shadowhunter turned his head to look. Magnus swiped a bit of the pasta sauce from Alec's lip with the bread, and proceeded to take a bite of it. Alec pouted, an innocent face Magnus had seen all too many times. Once the two had finished their food and drained their glasses of wine, very good wine I may add, they payed generously and made sure to give a tip to the ifrits working in the kitchen. Magnus and Alec liked walking home, it wasn't too many blocks away from the loft, and at night it was quieter than usual. They stepped out of the door hand in hand, blood fizzing and skin tingling from the amount of wine they'd drank. They were more or less tipsy, which was a bad idea for Alec. Magnus wasn't all very different when tipsy, it was when he got drunk that it got crazy. Just ask Catarina Loss and Ragnor Fell about that one night in Peru. Never mind, you don't want to know.
"I'm sorry about being late." Alec apologised, skimming his thumb over one of Magnus' knuckles. Magnus laughed a little, looking at Alec in the face and noticing how the streetlights illuminated all the ridges and sharp edges in his skin. It was like he'd been chiselled from marble. "If I minded, Alexander, I would've rang the institute up. It's fine, really." Magnus reassured Alec with his words and a kiss to his cheek. It was autumn now, Magnus only just realised, and as the trees turned red so did Alec's cheeks. They walked still, Alec swinging their twined hands ever so slightly as they made their way through the park. They'd gotten past the narrow street that the restaurant was situated on, and had been walking in the quietness park for a while now. Alec could hear the chattering of faeries behind bushes and up in trees, atop the kid's slide and on the swings, but he found that he didn't care. Magnus noticed him smiling to himself. "Why are you smiling all of a sudden?" He asked, feeling Alec's grip on his hand pull a little tighter. "Because I have the most beautiful boyfriend anyone could ever want." Alec pressed his lips together, and Magnus felt his insides go all gooey. Alec looked too sweet, sounded too sweet. His cheeks and nose had red colour pinched into them, and his hair was ruffled from the wind, and he hadn't even realised that Magnus had magicked a black scarf around his neck to warm him a little. "No no, that's not true. You already have that title." Magnus saw Alec raise an eyebrow at his statement, and he just stuck his tongue out. It was playful really, the two were themselves around each other, and Magnus liked annoying his boyfriend very much. At the moment it looked a little too cold for Alec, and his skin looked paler under the streetlights. Whether that was the intensity of the light or Alec being cold, Magnus didn't care. Alec came first. He lashed a hand to the side and swiftly pulled Alec in, the two landing at home in the middle of the living room. As soon as Magnus closed the portal Alec was hugging him, a full body hug, and Magnus laughed softly. This precious boy. He was lanky and tall and had long legs but all that dissolved away when he hugged Magnus. They fit together somehow, as much as that wasn't possible, and it confused Magnus as much as it did Alec. Magnus pulled from the hug prematurely, and Alec protested with a noise of discomfort. "Let's go get in bed. Then you can cuddle me all you want." Magnus nodded, and Alec rushed to the bedroom, his breath still clouding up. It was him being cold after all. When Magnus reached the bedroom Alec was pulling off his shirt, and goosebumps were everywhere. The loft was always searing hot, it's thermostat was broken and Magnus liked it warm so didn't bother fixing it, so Alec having goosebumps wasn't very natural. Magnus had to undress and use magic to remove his makeup and hair products before Alec was able to pull him into bed.
As soon as they got underneath the covers and their bodies clashed together Magnus was worrying. Alec was freezing cold. He wasn't rigid, but he was cold and making Magnus' body heat rise up into nothingness. Magnus wrapped his whole body around Alec s and pressed in closer, trying to get so close that Alec might heat up a little. It was working, even if it was by a little bit. "I'm not good in the cold." Alec blushed, feeling Magnus' hand come up to rest on his cheek. "I feel it." Magnus sighed happily, burying his face in Alec's neck. He pressed long kisses to it, making sure to make each one leave a warm trail of magic. Alec's skin tingled where Magnus had kissed it, like someone had rubbed peppermint oil on, and he silently praised the angel for such an amazing man. "Magnus?" Alec breathed out, feeling significantly warmer than he did when he first got in bed, and Magnus left one last kiss before finally meeting eyes with Alec. He hummed a 'yes' sparingly, feeling Alec poke him in the ribs slightly. "I'm still cold. " he whined, and smiled when he felt Magnus' hands heat up. They rested on his lower back, but shifted up between his shoulder blades and around his neck to his chest.
Oh the joys of having a warlock boyfriend.
