(This is an AU of the recent game Detroit: Become Human, and I'm in love with it. The plot is about android robots who start feeling human emotions and break their coding to follow their instincts and do what they believe is right.)

Another faceless android welcomed Magnus and his father into the shop. Magnus classed them as faceless because they were repeats of the same model. Families picked and chose the prettiest android to take home, and in the end either threw them out or had them repurposed. The maintenance worker androids stood to one side, the investigative models to another. The family make and housework androids stood front and centre. The sex worker androids sat at the back behind a reflective screen. They peered with their coded motions, occasionally waving to people or thin air, having been on timers for that sort of thing. It was creepy, but in Brooklyn everyone had an android; and Magnus' father Asmodeus was working on finding a new one once his old housework model named Lily, a pale skinned Chinese ethnic based android, was destroyed in one of his rages.

Magnus stared at his shoes. As an 18 year old human belonging to a wealthy and well off family, you'd expect him to be happy. But he wasn't. Being a Bane, he was expected to follow his father's footsteps as a medicine producer. A long line of apothecary workers was Magnus' family, and Asmodeus had made it clear that he expected Magnus to do the same. Magnus brushed off his blazer jacket, not used to the scratchy material. If only he had a silken one or cotton, maybe even a linen one as opposed to his itchy tweed one he was wearing. He looked up at the displays for a second, and his eyes caught onto a model hidden right at the back. It was beautiful. An RK800, it was a prototype android, and was said to rival even a hard working spouse, and for no regular wage either. It was the perfect family bot that cared for it's owners without real emotion and made sure everyone was healthy and happy before setting up for the next day.

Upon seeing the Android, he tapped his father's shoulder. The man turned sharply, all his movements hard and calculated, like an android's, and stared at Magnus. "What about that one?" He pointed, looking at the android once more. Asmodeus swept over to it, a helper android following to give an overview. Asmodeus listened intently, with his brows furrowed as he looked at Magnus. Magnus had never shown an interest in any android until now.

Magnus' father stared hard at the rk800 after its overview, then at its price board, then back at the rk800. He then turned to the helper android. "I will take this one." He spoke loud, clear, and unafraid. It was a Bane thing; to work and walk and talk as if you were on top no matter what you did. Asmodeus paid, and as tradition, Magnus was allowed to name the android. He'd done it since their first, and he still did it to that day.

"Magnus? What name would you like?"
"Rk800 prepare for name registration."
"Alec, nickname Alexander."
"Rk800, what is your name?"
"Alec, my name is Alec."

They took Alec back to the mansion that day, and it wasn't long until Magnus and Alec were acquainted like friends. In a few months, they were good friends. Or whatever came after acquaintance with an android.

"Magnus? I have your breakfast." Alec knocked on Magnus' bedroom door, making Magnus groan and turn in his bedsheets. The door slid open, and Alec swept in with a silver tray on one hand and the other on the handle as he shut it again. "Is my father away again? Did he say how long he'd be?" Magnus sighed, sitting up and taking the tray from Alec. He ate his bacon slowly, stopping every few bites to sip some orange juice. "He left early, told me to wake you at seven but after last night I figured I'd let you rest a little longer. He told me he'd be gone for two days at most." Alec explained, standing at the side of the bed. Magnus motioned to the sheets. "Sit down Alexander, all that standing can stiffen your artificial joints." Magnus said with a sweet smile, shuffling over a bit more with the tray as the android perched onto the mattress. "Thank you, also. You know, for letting me sleep." Magnus said softly, taking another sip of juice. He looked over at the clock beside his bed that read 10:04am. He then replayed the events of the previous night.
