Song ~ Sia - My Love

Alec sipped his coffee. He had an arm around Magnus along with his legs, sat on the kitchen counter. The two were dressed fully, and were supposed to be at the institute twenty minutes ago, but right now they were together and today was supposed to be Alec's day off. Maryse could wait twenty more minutes for her son and his boyfriend to get there. They exchanged syrupy, caffeine-charged kisses for another ten minutes before Alec noted that he had seven missed calls from his mother. "Alexander." Magnus sighed against Alec's cheek, biting at his lip. Alec pushed a hand into Magnus' hair, tugging at it softly in a way that felt good but didn't mess it up. Alec placed his phone aside, before using his now free hand to clutch at Magnus' shirt and pull him flush against him. He felt the counter beside him vibrate, but he barely took notice, and swallowed any kisses Magnus gave him. Magnus' hands slid beneath Alec's shirt, patting at his runes that he'd memorised a long time ago. Once Alec's phone had vibrated a second time, Magnus had picked it up and clicked the accept button. He held the phone to Alec's ear, and moved his lips lower so they were at the base of his jaw. "Alec it's important, I mean it, if you don't get here-" "Yes mum, I'll be there. Won't be long at all." Alec choked out, feeling Magnus pepper kisses down his neck to his collarbones that just showed above the collar of his shirt. Alec clicked the button to hang up on Maryse, and loosened his grip on Magnus. "We really have to go." Alec breathed, his exhale hot against the side of Magnus' head. "Promise me we'll put on that new vinyl once we're home, and we have a deal." Magnus' voice teetered a little and he raised an eyebrow as he lifted his head. Alec stared down at him. "Promise." He said."This mission will be fast. Come on." Alec lifted a seraph blade from the weapons board, and Magnus rolled his eyes. "Just close the rift, kill the demons, done. Then we can go home and listen to that new record you got. Maybe even dance." Alec added, slinging his bow and quiver over his shoulder. Magnus sighed. "Okay." He spoke after a while, seated on the side in the training room. Alec had gotten a phone call from Maryse a while ago asking if he could come in on his day off to go on a mission. There was a big demon rift on the coast, and Magnus was the warlock powerful enough to close it. They had been in bed, spilling crumbs everywhere from buttered croissants and other pastries Magnus liked to eat. They'd gotten up reluctantly, dressing slow to take as much time to stay home. Both were tired, very tired, but Jace and Clary were already out fighting the demons, and Isabelle had duties in Idris.
After getting ready, they portalled to where the rift was. It was in the ocean, not too far off shore, but enough that they had to swim, and the beach and water were clouded over with ichor and a multitude of Mantid demons. Alec could spot Jace and Clary on the beach fighting a few at once, and that meant that Alec had to protect Magnus in the cold water. He traced a thermos rune over and pointed Magnus to the direction of the rift. Magnus groaned. "Really? My clothes aren't going to last in the water. Salt isn't good for the fabric." He said with a hand in his hair. "I know, but you have to. Demons." "Yes I know." Magnus spoke immediately after Alec, pacing toward the shoreline. Alec followed, the water seeping through his boots immediately. They waded deeper, till the water reached both men's waists. The rift was still a while away, which meant they had to swim. Magnus pushed on first, swimming forward. Alec grabbed his hand when they got to the rift, and pressed a salty kiss to his cheek before letting go. "Be safe." He said, and manus rolled his eyes. "Cover me and I'll be fine." Said Magnus, treading water. This was the last thing Alec wanted to do, he wanted to have his day off and not be bothered by demons or any other shadowhunter business. Too bad.
Alec swam to the nearest cluster of demons, a circle of Mantid demons close to the rift below the water. Alec pulled his seraph blade out and shot forward, surging through and under the salty waves. The demons seemed to explode as Alec stabbed at them, which might have been because of the salt. Mantid demons didn't like salt at all, which made it strange that they were even in the ocean in the first place instead of migrating to the beach. Once Alec was done he turned to see Magnus' progress. The rift was nearly closed, he was bobbing atop the water with his hands glowing fiery red and orange. His hair was still up and not flattened by the waves, and he looked surprisingly awake. He seemed to be glaring at something deep in the pit. Alec turned back around to look for another group of demons to busy himself with, when he heard a massive crash. He turned to see the rift bigger than before and Magnus nowhere in sight. "Magnus!" He yelled, his mouth filling with sea water. He spat it out, swimming toward the rift with every intention of finding his boyfriend. He wouldn't forgive himself if something happened and he could have stopped it beforehand. "Magnus are you okay?!" Alec shouted out, ducking below the water level to swim a little faster. His boots were weighing him down, as were his weapons, but there was no chance in hell he was going to let his boyfriend suffer. He would find Magnus and keep him safe from any harm. "Magnus?!" Alec kept swimming, swimming to the rift that kept a ring of demons going his way. Alec peered over the edge of the rift and saw Magnus there, a speck at the bottom, with another man opposite him. "Magnus!" Alec shouted for what felt like he millionth time. He wanted to risk jumping in, but it was a far fall, and demons were crawling out by the hundreds. He was risking his life by even standing at the edge. He saw the two shapes get bigger till they were at eye level with Alec. It was Magnus, and someone else. A neatly dressed man, with a slightly less extravagant fashion sense than Magnus. Alec blinked, and the three seemed to teleport to the beachfront. His boots were buried in the soft sand, and the other man seemed to be smiling. It wasn't a nice smile, but one that had a hidden meaning. Magnus looked at him with a glare.
