"Once the wards are up and running we can go, Alexander." Magnus smiled and averted his attention back to his hands that glowed blue. He was reinforcing the institute's wards, a request from Maryse, and even though it bored him he was within the clutches of the Clave for dating Alec. He basically had not much of a choice. He did like how Maryse asked nicely though, sure it wasn't a soirée with confetti and shimmering martinis but Magnus would take what he got. It was Maryse after all.

Alec huffed. "Okay. I'm going to get some food that Isabelle hasn't cooked, and then go sit in the library okay?" He nudged Magnus' shoulder. The warlock turned his head to face Alec whilst powering the wards, and in turn got a kiss to his lips. Magnus hummed in agreement, and with that Alec walked off to the kitchen. He found an apple and shrugged, making his way to the library. It was a big place, and Alec still had to remember to not think about how Hodge sat in there a lot. He didn't bother sitting in one of the chairs, they were awkward and uncomfortable, and had no pillows either. He made do with a bookshelf. He tugged a random book from the shelf that wasn't caged and didn't bother to look at it's cover. Alec didn't usually read but it was to pass the time, to keep himself busy as Magnus did the wards.

It didn't tire Magnus out as much as it used to. The New York institute was one of the most important, and keeping the wards strong was quite a chore. Only Magnus was willing to do it too. Every other warlock was busy, or just didn't want to get stuck in nephilim affairs. It was either those reasons or the fact that their magic wasn't strong enough. Magnus was the High Warlock of Brooklyn, of course he could put up a few simple wards.

It took no less than twenty minutes for Magnus to finish restoring the wards, and Maryse patted him on the shoulder as thanks. She actually liked Magnus, liked how happy he made Alec. That was all that mattered, her son. Magnus wandered around aimlessly for Alec, and found the library in all its dusty, slightly pleasant-smelling glory. "Alexander, I finished. We can go home now." Magnus smiled as Alec wiped his mouth of apple juice. He slid the book back and took his boyfriend's hand as they left. They got to the main door and Alec grimaced. It was raining, water slicing through the air like a million sharp splinters. He'd never liked rain. It didn't really bother Magnus though, and he chuckled at Alec's face. Magnus tugged at Alec's hand, and the shadowhunter whined. "Magnus, do we have to walk?" He looked up pleadingly to Magnus, who had a sort of amused look on his face.

"Yes, I used up a lot of my magic. I doubt I can make a portal." Magnus blatantly lied, but Alec took it. Before they went to the institute Alec was bored and laying in bed alone as Magnus dealt with clients all morning. It was now sundown, and Alec simply believed that Magnus was sparked out. Alec's eyes widened. "We could ask Clary?" He prodded Magnus on the arm. Magnus smiled again. He had no clue how much Alec hated rain. It hurt when it was hard rain, and he stepped in puddles, and he had to change clothes when he got in. Rain was an inconvenience, and an annoying one at that. "Clary isn't a warlock and although she can make one with her stele, I wouldn't advise it." Magnus explained, and Alec huffed. He pulled Magnus to the door. "Come on then, lets go." He sighed with a small smile, and they left; hand in hand.

Alec stepped out into the downpour first, and didn't since like he thought he would. The rain was heavy, but not sharp on his face, and it was warm rain, summer rain. He tugged Magnus by his white sleeve, and he himself got drenched upon contact. Puddles were everywhere and the rain had only started half an hour ago. It reminded Magnus of England, reminded him of Tessa, Will, and Jem. God he missed them. He remembered saying to them that he had a thing for black hair and blue eyes. It had payed off after all that time. "It's warm." Said Alec, more as a question than a statement. Magnus laughed. "You've never felt warm rain?" "No, it's always been horrid and cold and miserable and the bane of my existence. Once I slipped and Jace laughed for the whole week I had a cold." Alec huffed, and Magnus sling an arm around his boyfriend's broad shoulders. It was a challenge of sorts. Alec was taller, and even though Magnus had long arms it was difficult.
