Song ~ Charli XCX - Boom Clap
~"Papa!" Shouted a certain blue-skinned warlock. Magnus went running, worried, skidding down the hallway to swing open the bedroom door. "What's up?" He asked, half frightened. Max finger-gunned him, before standing up on his bed and posing. "Remember the guys are coming over tonight, along with Rafe's people." He winked, and the colour drained from Magnus' face. "Blueberry, I forgot.." Magnus deadpanned, turned, and ran all the way down the hallway again to where Alec was sat with Rafael. The two were watching an episode of Project Runway, it had become the go-to show since Magnus had introduced it to the rest of the family. "Rafe, when are your and Max's friends coming over?" He asked, and Alec's head snapped in his direction. "Shi-" "Language, shadowhunter." Magnus cut his husband off. Rafael laughed. "Six, why?" He asked, eyebrow raised in the exact same way Alec's did.
The boys were getting older, Max being 13 and Rafael being 15. Max showed no signs of going through an emo phase, which was a relief to Magnus since his was quite terrible and filled with bad eyeliner and regretful hairstyles. Rafe was brooding sometimes, the same way Alec was when Clave related duties arose. Max was a charmer, both boys were, but Max most of all. He wooed his way into most of the high school clubs, taking flight in his photography class most of all. Rafael was quieter, co-founder of the LGBT alliance council in school while he also outshone most in the men's skating team. Alec and Magnus couldn't be any more proud of their children than they already were.
Alec got to his feet. "It's half five now, so go set up whatever you need and me and your father will tidy up." He said, ruffling Rafael's hair. The young shadowhunter got up and went to his and Max's shared room, shut the door, and then Alec started to panic. "Half an hour? How are we going to pull this off?" He asked, motioning wildly to Magnus. Magnus inhaled, placed his hands on Alec's shoulders, and exhaled. "Magic's depleted from that bastard client earlier, so looks like we're going to have to use good old fashioned hard labour." He said after a while, smiling. It was infectious, and Alec helplessly ended up grinning too. They got to work. Being a family of nephilim and warlocks, mundanes coming over was a big thing. Max had to constantly train his magic so his glamour didn't fade when he slept like it usually did, and Rafe had to have constant help from either his brother or father to disguise his runes. In school he had them covered with concealer.
At this moment, the loft was covered with either magical artefacts or books, sheets that had drawings of runes both demonic and angelic with descriptions, spare steles on basically every free surface, even Alec's bow and arrows were spread out on the coffee table next to Rafael's feather staff. Mugs of coffee were strategically placed on mats between the bow handle and string, the loft was basically a mess of downworlder and seraphim things.
Alec started by picking the weapons up. He tucked the arrows away into their quiver, slung the bow over his shoulder, grabbed the feather staff in his free hand, and found a place somewhere in the loft to hide them. Magnus packed up paperwork, arranging the stacks in urgency as he frantically hummed a song Alec didn't recognise. By the time the loft doorbell rang, the loft was clean and the family was curled up on the sofa reading something by Edgar Allen-Poe.
Rafael and Max raced to the door, both trying to trip each other up and get the door themselves. Magnus and Alec stood in the hallway, watching the door slide open silently. There stood two bands of friends. One band consisted of one boy and one girl, the other of one girl and one androgyne. Max's was the first, Rafe's was the second. "Holy smokes this is your place? You told me it was nice but this nice? Woah." One of the girls in Rafael's friend group gushed. "We agreed you'd never say holy smokes, ever." The Spanish shadowhunters laughed, inviting everyone in. "Guys, these men are strange we've never met them in our lives they just showed up." Max said, making a hard-faced Alec crack a smile. "Hope you're joking, blueberry." Magnus laughed. "Of course I am papa, I'm not stupid." Came Max's quick reply. "These uptight men are our fathers. Soldier 76 over there is Alec, and Louis Vuitton next to him is Magnus; we are the Gucci gang. Don't be scared to ask questions or anything, they won't bite." Rafael smiled, Magnus looking scandalised at Rafael's names for them. "Dads, this is Charlotte and Laurel." Max pointed to his friends. "This is Avery and Pippa." Rafael gestured to his friend and significant other, leading everyone into the lounge.
