Chapter 28: The Good Girl's Promise
YOU'RE A WIZARD, KIMBERLY •

KIMBERLY

My haunting dreams resurfaced as I fell in and out of sleep. My body twitched as the memories of death floated around my head; at who could possibly die next due to my stupidity. The memories were twisted in ways I have never faced.

Dark figures chased me in my dreams. Some looked like my parents, and others looked like my friends...and one looked like Ryder.

Ryder was the one that kept me anchored. As the dark figures tried to break me down, one held onto me tightly and protected me. His arms wrapped around me like a vise. Keeping me grounded and keeping me safe.

I held onto him with all I had and I didn't let go. I never lost grip as the nightmares that tore me down for months, face me again now.

I didn't let go.

Not once. Not twice. Never.

Then I woke up.

My eyes took a few minutes to adjust to the bright white lights of the hospital room. The needle was now out of my hand, allowing my discomfort to ease. Slight soreness pulsed from where the needle was injected.

I glanced further down at my hand and noticed it was taken by another large, warm hand. It was slack in mine but still captured mine so I couldn't slip it out if I wanted to. I looked up at the person who was holding onto my limb and noticed Ryder's sleeping figure.

His body was slumped over in the hospital chair next to my bed. His hair matted against his forehead as his slight snores filled the room. I smiled down at his hand that was interlocking mine.

He stayed with me. He kept his promise.

I couldn't help but feel my heart skip a beat when his fingers twitched around mine. Our hands were tied together like magnets to metal. Hard to break and had chemistry.

Ryder's eyes fluttered open not long after I woke up. He glanced at my awake figure and squeezed my hand before asking with a tired yawn, "So, how long have you've been stalking me as I slept?"

I role my eyes, "I was not stalking you."

"Oh right, you were mentally imagining me naked..."

I pinched his hand with my pointer finger and thumb. The little bit of skin I caught got pinched in between my fingernails. He shrieks,"Ow! Damn woman! No need to abuse me!"
