Remus was overall an obedient child.
He knew how much his parents suffered due to his ailment and he felt bad that they had to undergo such a lot due to him.
So he made sure that he didn't give them any chance to feel sorry about caring for him. He did all he could to make up for the trials his parents had to face on full moons by obeying their each order, studying well, respecting them and doing whatever they wanted him to do.
He also made sure to take care of them when he could because he knew the monthly transformations were rather hard on both Hope and Lyall and thus he didn't want to make things harder for them.
