Despite being a responsible person, Remus was personally very irresponsible.
Personally, because that trait of his only affected him.
For instance he would put on a kettle to boil and forget about it entirely just to remember again when the whole water has evaporated and everything is in smoke.
That way, Remus could be pitifully terrible at Muggle work.
