Out of all his friends, Remus was closest to Sirius. Despite the fact that they were quite opposite in personality, still the two understood each other remarkably well.

Then they also had a somewhat shared experience of being discriminated, Rem due to his lycanthropy while Siri due to the fact that he was the only Gryffindor in a whole family of Slytherins.

So when Siri switched the Potter's secret keeper to Peter without telling him and was blamed for James and Lily's death, Remus was totally broken. Because he thought the two never kept anything from each other and he could easily trust Siri with his life, yet all the proofs were against him.

Remus had felt betrayed and had shut the door on Sirius when he turned up to his place right after the killings at Godric Hollow in order to tell him that he hadn't snitched and the real culprit was Peter.

But Rem had been broken so bad that he couldn't believe anything anymore hence he hadn't given him even a chance to explain.

That night, James and Lily were not the only one's who died.

That night Rem's long held faith in Sirius had died too, killing a major piece of his heart as well.
