Remus was a conscious sleepwalker.

That is, he didn't sleepwalk all the time but when he did he would be quite aware of the surroundings as well as the situation.

It wasn't a new thing for the Marauders to find Remus in the common room revising his Astronomy notes with his eyes shut and probably asleep. The funny thing was that he always git all the facts right and never repeated anything wrong.

...In the Gryffindor Common Room at 2:30 am...

James (squinting on not being able to see him clearly without spectacles): "Remus, wake up. You've been sleepwalking again, aren't you?"

Remus (mumbling yet fast asleep): "The Polyjuice Potion enables the consumer to assume the physical appearance of another person. The effect of the potion is only temporary, and depending on how well it has been brewed, may last anything from between ten minutes and twelve hours..."

Sirius (coming out of the dorm rubbing his eyes): "We'll have to take him to the dorm ourselves. He is not going to wake up until he has brewed the potion in his dream or exploded the cauldron. And that means, it's not gonna be soon."

James: "Hey, Pete, we will have to carry him back. Come along, will you, and do bring my spectacles."

Peter (yawning widely): "Sure..."

...Peter falls asleep too...

Sirius: "Darn, we can't carry two of them."

James: "Forget about it, Padfoot. We're sleeping in the common room tonight."
