Remus had had teaching experience even before he became the Defense Professor at Hogwarts in Harry's third year.
Excluding the consistent teaching he had to do for his friends before exams at the end of each school term, he had also given tuitions. In the Summer Break, he used to teach the children in his neighborhood.
The kids loved him as a teacher because he had a very practical and hands on technique of teaching. The reason why everyone at Hogwarts loved him as the Defense teacher was also due to his teaching methods that set him apart from others.
