It was Remus who worked out the protective enchantments on The Marauders Map.
It was solely his idea to design a trick which would start insulting the intruder (any one) who would attempt to open the map by any other method than the actual one.
Sirius drew the whole map, James and Peter brought out the information on tunnels and secret passages and Remus enchanted it to work along with the useful enchantment of dots labeling people all around Hogwarts.
The Map was like the Marauder's very own personal self designed GPS system and was always quite a crucial element in their pranks.
