Remus regarded his friends as family. He was sorted into Gryffindor along with them and they shared a dorm. Even though all four of them were polar opposites still they got along well with each other.
Being a studious and clever student, he helped his friends with homework and planned their pranks for them. True, he never participated in their pranks since he didn't want to let Dumbledore down or make him consider his decision of letting him stay at Hogwarts but still most of their well thought out plans came through him.
