Josh's story seemed far-fetched, but his face was sincere.
Tyler had seen some things before, yes. Strange things from his mind, out in the world, as if they were real. But he knew they were fake. This felt too real. No, he'd never seen anything like this. Nothing he could physically touch.
"This has to be a dream," Tyler muttered. He brought a hand to his head. "None of this can be real."
"Tyler--"
"No!" Tyler got up, insistent. "I'm not sitting on a spaceship in the woods, I'm not talking to a freaking alien! I'm in bed, I'm asleep." The skinny boy was shaking. "I'm dreaming."
Josh stood too. "Hey, it's okay." He reached an arm out to Tyler, but the other boy stepped back, almost backing off the edge of the vessel.
"I'll-I'll wake up any minute now," Tyler assured himself aloud. Josh reached out for him again, and Tyler leaned away, precariously close to the edge.
Josh reached out for him a final time, fingers brushing the side of Tyler's face gently. They were soft, but it made Tyler feel inexplicably dizzy.
Tyler's vision started to swirl, growing more and more blurry, until he saw nothing but blackness.
