For most of his day, Tyler laid in bed. He slept heavily, at first, but once he wasn't feeling exhausted anymore, he just dozed. His sleep was warm, but not overly so. Comfortable and content.
Some time postmeridian, Tyler woke. The golden sunlight shone brightly through the window, making Tyler sigh and nestle his head into his pillow again.
He no longer felt tired, just hungry. He sat up and felt the blood rush to his head, the way it always does when you wake up after a long nap. He shook his head a little, then got out of bed and went into the kitchen.
His mother was there, chopping something up; he could tell by the smell that it was onions. She looked up as Tyler entered the room. "Did you sleep okay?"
He just nodded. His mother's overbearing attitude towards him was an annoyance. She treated him like a baby, when in reality he was the oldest of his siblings. She treated all of them like they were normal; sometimes she even ignored them in favor of TYler. He had issues, sure, but so does everyone! It got on his nerves, but he didn't want to hurt her feelings. One time he told her to just leave him alone, and she went to her room and didn't come out for dinner.
"Would you like anything to eat?" she asked him, setting down her knife on the counter.
"Can I have a sandwich?" His voice was slightly hoarse. He cleared his throat a bit; he was pretty sure he wasn't sick, but he had definitely been tired earlier, after having basically zero sleep from staying up the night with Josh.
Josh. Tyler tried not to let a smile appear on his face as he thought of the alien boy. He'd had so much fun talking with him. Their questions had ranged from deep, dark questions ("Would you ever kill?") to lighter, sillier ones ("Have you ever had a burrito before?"). He'd enjoyed his time with Josh, and he was definitely going back again tonight.
Once Tyler's mother had finished his sandwich, she set it down for him on a paper plate on the island in the middle of the kitchen. He hopped up on one of the red bar stools; he felt like a little kid again. Maybe that was okay sometimes. "Thanks, Mom."
His mother just smiled and went back to chopping her onions.
