(A/N: FANGIRLS, FANBOYS, and NONBINARY FANPEOPLES, I warn you to PREPARE YOURSELVES. I can't say what for because I don't want to spoil it, just BE READY.)
(I promise nobody dies.)When Tyler woke the next morning, he was in Josh's arms.
It wasn't even dawn yet, but he was awake. He'd been orried about Josh, so he'd woken up a few other times during the night as well, just to check up on him. Each time, Josh had been asleep, and seemingly fine.
This time, when Tyler woke, Josh was awake. He was nuzzling into Tyler's hair.
"Good morning," Tyler whispered, and Josh laughed.
"It's early, Tyler." The digital clock on Tyler's desk was blinking 4:32; the power must have been back on.
"It's still morning."
They kissed, and this time Tyler's mom wasn't there to stop them.
Everything about this felt so right to Tyler--Josh was safe, and warm, and perfect. There was no worry, no fear or anxiety. Everything felt absolutely lovely, and Tyler couldn't ever see himself stopping.
"Josh?" Their lips were barely separated, so Tyler was almost whispering into Josh's mouth.
"Yeah?"
Tyler swallowed and pulled his face back a little, suddenly feeling a little nervous. "Would it be okay to say I loved you?"
Josh was quiet for a moment, and Tyler worried that he'd said the wrong thing. But then the alien boy kissed him again, so softly and sweetly that it made Tyler sigh.
"Only if it would be okay if I said that I loved you, too." There was a question in Josh's black eyes as he looked into Tyler's face.
Tyler kissed him in response, lovingly, and as Josh kissed back, he let his last tiny, flightless little misgiving go.
