-Third Person-
"Um, is this thing on?" A voice asked as the camera flickered on, showing the Blue Paladin slipping into a chair.
"Uh, hey. This is Lance McClain, the Pilot of the Blue Lion and the right leg of Voltron."
Lance shrugged, "Coran told me that I should make this video about myself for future Paladins of Voltron." Lance grinned. "Well, I'm from Earth, Cuba to be more specific." Lance paused. "I went to the Garrison, and stumbled across the Blue Lion with Shiro, Keith, Hunk, and Pidge." Lance propped his head in his hand. "I ended up in a floating Altean space castle and piloting a magical robotic lion." Lance laughed. "I'm the team's sharpshooter, and I talk a lot. Like, a lot." Lance sighed. "I guess I talk a lot because I come from a family of 6, so there was always something going on, always noise. Never silence." Lance slumped a little bit.
"I miss them. I hope I'll get to see them again, some day."
Lance's eyes grew distant. "I also joke around a lot, say a lot of things in the heat of battle. I guess I do that to cover up how tired I am, how I'm falling apart." Lance eyes shifted to the ground. "But hey, someone has to keep everyone's spirits up, and my teammates are so important to this universe, they're it's only hope." Lance perked up. "And I'm Lance McClain! Everyone loves me!" Lance grinned.
"Well, not everyone."
Lance's smile fell. "I-I'm not even sure my friends do." Lance folded into himself, his body crumpling. Lance raised a hand to his face, roughly wiping at his eyes.
"I-I'm sorry, I shouldn't be crying."
Lance's voice shook. "Calm down, Lance." Lance's chest rose irregularly. "Breathe in, breathe out." Lance mumbled, rising shakily from his chair.
"I-I'm sorry, I-I can't do this."
Lance staggered off-screen, and the camera went dark.
______________
-Keith's POV-The rest of the team and I were gathered in the control room, waiting while Lance was in the recording room. I sighed impatiently, gazing at the clock on the wall. "Keith." Shiro's voice was clear, "It's only been 5 minutes." I rolled my eyes. "I know." Hunk smiled, shrugging. "I don't even know what I'll say in my video. I mean, this is like the ultimate memory thing, you know?" Pidge nodded. "This is how we'll be remembered." Shiro looked at the wall. "I guess." There was a hissing sound, and the door to the recording room slid open. All of us turned to look at the door, and Lance came stumbling out, hand covering his eyes. "Hey Lance, how'd it go?" Hunk asked, curious. "Fine." Lance's voice trembled. "Hey, you okay?" Pidge asked. "Yeah." Lance responded, walking briskly across the room. "Are you hurt? Why are you covering your eyes?" Shiro asked, standing up concerned. Lance lowered his arm, and I stiffened.
"I'm fine."
Lance mumbled, tears dripping down his cheeks. Hunk was on his feet in a second, the rest of following his example. "Lance! What's wrong, are you okay?" Pidge asked, running over to him. "Yeah. I just got something in my eye...." He trailed off, and furiously wiped at his face.
"I-I need some air."
Lance raced out of the room as the tears started falling harder, trailing down his face and splattering on his armor. I stood, frozen.
I'd never seen Lance cry.
Judging by the others' faces, they hadn't either.
No one moved, deadly afraid of breaking the silence like glass. "What just happened?" I asked, slowly turning to face the others. Pidge was pale, and Hunk was shaking slightly. Shiro held a concerned gaze at the door where Lance exited. "Lance was......crying?" Pidge muttered, sitting heavily on the couch. "Why? I-I've never seen Lance cry before." She murmered. Shiro slowly walked over to the control panel and pulled up Lance's vlog.
"Let's find out."
Shiro stated firmly, hitting play.
"Everyone loves me!" Lance shoulders slumped. "Well, not everyone." Lance folded into himself. "I'm not even sure if my friends do." Lance roughly raised a hand to his face, wiping his eyes. "I-I'm sorry. I-I shouldn't be crying." Lance took a shuddery breath. "Calm down Lance, breathe in, breathe out." He mumbled, shakily rising from his chair. "I-I'm sorry, I-I can't do this."
The vlog ended.
I felt a sudden heaviness in my chest, and I felt my eyes grow wide. "He's falling apart," Pidge whispered, "And we never noticed." I finished, staring at the static-filled screen. Hunk wrapped his arms around himself, downcast. "He thinks he's not worth as much as much as we are." Shiro stated seriously, "He thinks he's useless." I turned and walked out the door, ignoring Shiro's protests. I skimmed through the halls, stopping in the training room.
Lance sat on the windowsill, still in his armor. His face was lit up with the dull glow of neighboring stars, and shiny tear tracks reflected on his cheeks. "Stupid." Lance muttered, running a hand roughly through his hair, "Stupid." I slowly walked towards him, gently calling out his name. "Lance?" Lance sprung to his feet, plastering on a smile. "Oh, heya Mullet!" He smirked, "How was your vlog? Did you give them an exclusive look into your space-emo life?" He laughed. I sighed, irritated.
"You can drop the act."
I growled, "I'm not stupid." Lance only cocked his head, grinning. "I can't drop these good looks, they come with the package." Lance joked, gesturing to his body. I huffed. "Jesus, why are you so annoying?" Lance's face fell briefly before he smiled again. "I'm not annoying," he argued, "You just can't deal with my awesomeness." I narrowed my eyes.
"Whatever. I came to tell you that we're all worried about you, and that we should have a team discussion." I felt my hands curl into fists as Lance shrugged. "Okay. Is everything okay? Did something happen?" He questioned innocently. "Stop." I growled, "Stop it! Just-Just drop the act! You're falling apart, and yet you keep acting happy even though it's tearing you apart!" I glared. Lance deflated, and the smile slipped off his face. "I know," Lance's voice was soft, "I know. I know, and-and it hurts." Lance's eyes were hollow, and suddenly he seemed paper thin, a fragile being of glass.
"But what's wrong with acting confident?"
