-Lance's POV-

I panted as I shot Galra after Galra, providing my team with covering fire as they ran across the room, taking care to protect Pidge and her laptop. "Lance! Let's move!" Shiro's voice rang over the comms. I shot to my feet, sprinting over the floor and around the corner, running in front of the others. I launched myself into the hallway, landing an army roll and blasting the sentries to the ground. I kneeled down, eyes lining up the scope of my bayard. "You're clear." I said, and the team rushed down the corridor. I placed my finger on the trigger and turned around, facing the opposite way.

There was no way I was letting anything touch my friends.

I backed away slowly, gun locked and loaded. "Quiznak!" Pidge hissed over the helmet, and I straightened. "Pidge, what's wrong?" I called over the line. "Too....many..." Hunk's voice crackled. I rushed after my friends, slamming the doors open, eyes widening.

The team was surrounded in the Hangar, desperately trying to cover each other from the impossible number of bullets that flew towards them. I gritted my jaw, eyes skimming over the room, looking for anything useful. That's when I saw it.

A small rafter hanging from the ceiling, overlooking the mass of Galra soldiers.

I narrowed my eyes. If I could get up to that rafter, I could hit the exhaust mechanism on the wall, knocking out half of the soldiers and disarming the rest. One problem,

It would leave me completely vulnerable.

I steeled myself as my teammates cries echoed in my ears. I activated my jetpack, flying straight into the air, landing gracefully on the rafter. I kneeled down, placing the exhaust mechanism in my sights. I took a deep breath and pulled the trigger, sending a blast of blue shooting across the hangar, making contact with my target. The bullet sent a blast of heat flying outwards, and it tore through the Galra ranks, freeing my friends. I smiled, watching as my friends located me on the rafter. I sighed in relief as they started making their way towards the control center, all of them still in one piece.

My smile slipped off of my face as excruciating pain exploded in my back, and my body pitched forwards in surprise. My bayard slipped out of my hand, clattering to the ground below. My eyes widened as I fell forwards, the breath knocked out of me. I slammed into the ground, the lights swimming across my vision.

Why couldn't I move?

"LANCE!"

Pidge screamed, and I heard footsteps rush towards me. "G-Guys?" My voice was hoarse, "What's wrong?" I felt several pairs of hands on my body. "Lance, I-It's going to be okay." Hunk's voice cracked. "What's happening?" Keith's wide eyes came into my line of vision. "Just hang in there." I slumped downwards as I felt a warm substance seep through my armor.

"Oh."

I laughed. "That's why I can't move." Shiro's body tensed. "It's going to be okay." His voice was gruff, "Just-Just hang in there, Lance." I felt my chest tighten, and I began to cough, red splattering on the ground. "Nah, we all know I'm not." I smiled, "But it's okay." "No! N-no, you're going to be fine!" Pidge's whimpered. I struggled for air, "Hey." I whispered, and Keith immediately kneeled down besides me.

"Make sure they get out safely."

I sighed, my eyes fluttering closed. "LANCE! NO, NO, NO! STAY WITH US!" Keith yelled, his voice growing faint.

"Make sure they get out safely."

I breathed, and everything went dark.

-Keith's POV-

Everything slowed to a stop, Lance going limp in my arms. "L-Lance?" I whispered, arms shaking. "Wake up!" Lance didn't respond, blood pouring out of the bullet wound in his back, his Bayard lying several feet away. "Keith," Shiro's voice was soft, "He's gone." I ignored him, eyes locked onto Lance's figure.
