"Oh my quiznak." Pidge's voice cut through the impossible silence. "We-We did it." Lance gasped sharply, "We did it." He mumbled, smiling, "WE DID IT!" He laughed, jumping into the air, "WE DID IT! WE DID IT!" His frenzy snapped the others of suspended animation. "We did it." Shiro smiled, "The Galran Empire has fallen." Keith smiled, glancing at the stars. "Yeah," he laughed, "I guess we did." Lance smiled, his grin lighting up the room.

"The war is over."

He laughed, "It's over." Hunk wrapped Lance up in a hug, Pidge grinning wildly. "We can go home." She whispered, "We're free." Shiro smiled softly at Allura, who had tears in her eyes. "The entire universe is free." Hunk spun around, Lance in his arms. "We saved the universe." His eyes lit up, "And this calls for a party." The Paladins all laughed, a family made of trial and error.

-Lance's POV-

I laughed as I stood in the center of a crowd, the Castle transformed into a large party-room. "I'm sure gonna miss this place." I sighed, looking around at the glass and metal walls. "Yeah, but we get to go home." Hunk smiled, "And we'll keep in touch. This is just an unofficial goodbye, ya' know? We go back to Earth tomorrow, and man, I'm so excited." I shrugged, eyes trailing to the others across the room. "I'm going to miss you guys." I said, a weight filling my chest. "We get to keep our lions, so we can visit anytime." Hunk placed a hand on my shoulder, "Don't worry about it." I shook my head, "Right. Let's just enjoy this killer party." I laughed, turning my back on everything except my friends and the stars.

Lance flew into Earth's atmosphere with 4 other lions, sighing as they all split ways. Lance's eyes soon filled with joy as he neared the tropic island known as Cuba, and Blue purred. "We're home, Blue." Lance whispered, and he flew above the tropics of the island. Lance's eyes searched the ground below for the familiar patchwork of his home town, his eyes narrowing as nothing came into view. "This is weird, we should be right over-" His voice stopped as his body froze, his blood freezing.

Wreckage was  strewn across the ground, trees uprooted, not a single living soul in sight.

"Oh, Oh my god." Lance's hands began to shake, "This-This can't be right." Lance pulled on Blue's controls, and landed down on the ground, stumbling over the wreckage. "This is the wrong place. It has to be." Lance jerked to a halt as a structure caught his eye, and he slowly made his way over to the gray stone. "This monument is dedicated to all of the lived lost in Hurricane Lacy." Lance read aloud, his voice cracking, eyes watering as the wooden sign reading "Havana, Cuba" came into view. "N-No." Lance's whole body shook, his blue eyes wild, "They're okay. My family is okay." Lance scrambled closer to the monument, fingers clawing at the names engraved in stone, his entire world coming to a halt as his fingers came to a rest on a line.

The McClain Family, You shall always be remembered.

Lance wheeled backwards, mind a wild storm of emotions. "No, no, no." He whispered, his heart shattering into a million shards, "You can't be gone, You-You can't leave me!" Lance felt Blue's presence in his mind, but he ignored her. Lance stood silent in the middle of a destroyed city, tears sliding down his face. "I-I came back for you, and you're gone." Lance fell to his knees, his icy blue eyes watery. "You left me." Lance sobbed, "You left me." Lance sprinted back to Blue, his tears leaving a trail on the dry soil. "Ungh." He cried, throwing himself in the pilot chair, calling Hunk through the communication system.

"Hello?"

Hunk's confused voice echoed through Blue's interior, "Lance?" Lance stared straight ahead, tears splattering on Blue's cockpit. "G-Gone." Lance muttered, "They're gone." Hunk's face morphed into one of shock on the screen, and he leaned forwards with increased urgency. "Lance?! Buddy, what's wrong?" Lance laughed, his voice broken. "Dead." He smiled, silvery pools gathered in his eyes, "They're all dead." Lance buried his face in hands, tears sliding down his cheeks. "Lance! Buddy, what happened, who's dead?!" Hunk was on the verge of panic, "Where are you?" Lance shakily forced himself to his feet, his eyes empty. "My family is dead." He said, tone emotionless, "They left me." Hunk shot to his feet on the opposite side of the screen, "Oh my god, oh my god." Lance smiled, roughly wiping at his face with his jacket sleeve.

"I need to go now."

Lance's voice was soft, "Bye, Hunk. Tell the others that I hope everything goes well." Lance swayed on his feet, and he quickly turned around, beginning to walk away. "LANCE!!" Hunk yelled, eyes wild, "WHERE ARE YOU? STAY PUT, OH GOD, PLEASE DON'T DO ANYTHING!" Lance ignored him, shutting the comm off and falling into the pilot seat heavily. "Let's go Blue." He whispered, "I have somewhere I have to go."

_______________

-Hunk's POV-

Lance shut the comm off, and I immediately called the others, hands shaking. "Hunk?" Pidge and Keith popped up on the screen, Shiro appearing close after. "What's wrong?" Keith questioned, concerned. "Pidge, do-do you know where Lance is?" My voice shook. "Umm, no. Why?" I ran a hand through my hair, "I-I need you to find him. We need to find him before it's too late." Shiro straightened, "Hunk, what happened?" I took a shaky breath, tears welling in my eyes. "Lance, he called me just now." I wiped at my eyes, "His entire family is dead." Pidge gasped sharply, and Keith flinched. "And Lance, he-he's going to do something stupid." My voice broke. "If he hasn't already."

__________

-Lance's POV-

I stood on the edge of a cliff, hair whipping around my head in the wind. Blue lay perched behind me, her urgent purring in the back of my mind. I swayed dangerously, staring into the sea below.

My family was dead, and I wasn't.

"It's not fair." I turned and whispered, smiling faintly at Blue. "Thanks, girl." I told her, "For being there for me when I needed it." I stared up at the sky, white clouds far too innocent. "Dead." I muttered, falling backwards, the feeling of weightlessness filling my body. I slammed into the water, and I gasped at the painful impact, water flooding my lungs. I smiled as blue bled into vision.

Death by water, my element. Ironic, wasn't it?

I took another mouthful of water, and my movements turned sluggish. I was faintly aware of a figure swimming towards me, but I tossed my head back and breathed in more water.

After all, home is where the heart is.

And If I didn't have a home,

I didn't have a heart.
