keith is bom.

Lance couldn't remember the last time he felt rain. To stand in the midst of serenity, surrounded only by droplets of a beautiful being, to have the water's hands trace his face in graceful song.

The void inside of him missed it too.

The hole inside his chest had long since replaced his heart, eating away at his soul, his mind, his will. The storm inside of him only quieted, only calmed, when the storm outside triumphed over him. When the wind whipped violently through his hair, and the gentle lullaby of the rain sang him to tranquility; that was when Lance could rest.

When Lance could feel.

When Allura had pulled the Paladins aside to tell them that they were stopping on a planet similar to earth, Lance felt a jolt of ecstatic wonder. "Whoah, are you serious, 'llura?" The words had slipped out of his mouth before he counter, and the princess gave a heavy sigh. "Yes, Lance. I must attend a brief gathering of supporters, and I cannot fathom the idea of myself taking the break without bringing the rest of you along." Lance shifted his weight as he pumped a fist in the air, grinning at Hunk as they spoke in unison,

"A power-hour vacation!"

The two Paladins cheered, Pidge chiming in at the very last syllable. Coran clapped his hands in a soft gesture of approval, Shiro himself unable to hold back a smile.

"One day."

Allura broke in, hands on her hips, "It is only for one day. As in, one, singular, day." Hunk's eyebrows scrunched together at her words, but the smile never left his face. "Uh, vacation is vacation, Allura. One day, one week, one month; vacation is vacation." He waved a finger in her direction, and she rolled her eyes in exasperation. "Whatever. Just please, for the love of Altea, behave yourselves." Lance shot her a pair of fingerguns, winking at the Altean,

"When do we not behave?"

Lance couldn't believe his eyes.

The planet they had landed on was truly, undoubtedly, strikingly similar to earth. The local flora stood proud under the cloudy skies, the cold breeze rustling their leaves as the gray slipped boldly across the sky. "Holy Havana." The Red Paladin gaped, "The princess wasn't lying. It's just like Cuba, here." Pidge snorted at his words, elbowing him lightly in the side, "Havana, oh na na." She snickered, and Lance pouted at her mockery, "Yeah, yeah. Laugh all you want, Pigeon; it'll be stuck in your genius-sized brain, soon enough."

Shiro disembarked from the castle along with Hunk, both males donning a form of coat. "I suggest we find shelter," Shiro's voice cut through the din of chatter, "It's going to be one hell of a storm." The black Paladin gestured to the darkening clouds, and Lance's eyes widened.

Rain.

Rain.

Lance's body spun automatically, the backpack slipping from his shoulders and thudding to the ground. Rain was coming, was here, was going to fall. "Lance?" Hunk's uncertain voice seemed like a scream, "We really have to go. The storm's going to break any minute-"

Ah, how his words were Taboo.

The sky split open as Hunk yelped in surprise, darting back under the lowered Castle, seeking safety in the awning of its yawning ramp, Pidge cursing as she cradled her laptop close, breaking out into a run as she joined Hunk and Shiro in the shadow of their ship.

Lance remained frozen.

His blue eyes faced gray and he held a hand out in front of him, the motion painfully slow compared to the rhythm of the rain falling around him. "Lance!" Shiro called out to him, but his words were drowned out in the sound, "What the hell are you doing-" Pidge merely stared at Lance, glasses betraying her concern at the Red Paladin's complete and utter silence. Lance ignored them all, mind preoccupied by the thundering anger the world had unleashed upon them, upon every living being that dared walk the planet's surface. By the raging wind that left no leaf unturned, by the rain that engulfed him in powerful vengeance.

Lance noticed that the void inside him didn't dissipate at all.
