Cody's POV:

The next day, I arrived at Jessica's house to fetch her to school just like my mom asked me to. I knocked at her door. Her mom answered it and invited me inside. She said that Jessica would be down any minute. After an few minutes of silence, her mom said: "Thank you Cody for bringing back my girl home safely and sound. Words can't describe how grateful I am to you." "It's not big deal Mrs. Williams. I'm just glad I could help." I heard the sound of footsteps and I saw Jessica coming down the stairs. "You ready to go?" I asked her. She nodded. "Goodbye Mrs. Williams." I said as I walked out the door and Jessica followed behind. "Goodbye mom." Jessica said after me. "Goodbye you two. Have fun. And Cody, please take care of my girl." Mrs. Williams said. "Sure thing Mrs. Williams." I said. Then we entered the car and we drove off. Throughout the drive to school, I noticed that Jessica was thinking about something. I guess she was still trying to process what happened last night. The look on her face was still the same as last night, except she looked very tired. Her eyes were also extremely red. She looked as if she was up all night crying. "Are you ok Jess?" I said trying to make conversation. She simply just nodded her head. Her reply told me that she wasn't fine at all. And for some reason, it hurt me to see her like this. I want to see the old Jessica again. I prefer the confident Jessica, the Jessica who would talk sassy to me for trying to get to know her. Not that I didn't like this Jessica, but this Jessica looked liveless and she looked as if she had lost all hope. I'm gonna have to change that and I sure will. I will not rest until I make Jessica smile today. Minutes later, we arrived at school. I parked the car and we both got out. Jessica left without a single word. I didn't complain. I knew she was going through a hard time and she needed some time and space to overcome it. I would give all the time and space that she needs. I would also be there for her if she needs me but I can only do so if she lets me? After what happened last night, will she give me a chance? I thought. Throughout the whole day, I kept monitoring Jessica from afar. She was just the same as she was in the morning. She talked less and mostly kept to herself. I've had enough of this. So during lunch, I made a little surprise for her and placed it in her locker. As soon as lunch was over, she stopped by her locker to get her books. I watched her from far. As soon as she noticed the surprise I left her, she began to read the note that I had left together with it. It read:

Dear Jessica,

I've been watching you all day. Why are you so sad? You know a pretty girl like you does not deserve to be sad. So cheer up. You look pretty when you're happy. And that's all I want for you. To be happy.

Signed,

Your secret admirer.

As soon as she read the note, her face broke into a smile. For the first time today, she actually smiled. I wanted to scream and shout because I made her smile but I had to keep my happiness down or else I would get caught. So I walked away with a proud grin satisfied that I had managed to make Jessica smile. As soon as school was over, I went and got ready for football. After I got changed into my football clothes, I headed out to the field. I noticed Jessica and her friends there too. She seemed much more happier than she was in the morning. Seeing her happy made me feel happy too. After practice ended, I was heading to my car when my phone beeped. It was a message from my mom. Apparently, my mom dad and Mrs. Williams had to urgently travel abroad. They would be away for a week and I would have to stay with Jessica and Allie. Mom asked me to pass the message on to Jessica. I replied my mom and continued walking to the car where I found Jessica was waiting for me. "I have something to let you know." I told her. "Your mom, my mom and my dad had to travel abroad urgently. They won't be around for a week. In the meantime, I would have to stay with you and Allie." "Sure. Fine by me." She said as she sat in the car. Finally, she talked to me. I was dying to hear her talk the whole day. I got in and we drove home. For a while, there was silence between us. Until Jessica spoke up: "Thanks Cody for yesterday and today. You don't know how much I needed that." I smiled at her and replied. "No problem. It's the least I could do." She smiled at me and I returned back the smile. And we stayed like this throughout the entire ride home.
