Mom allowed us to take our off-duty though not yet legit to avail it.  I explained to her that my special girl is having a hard time on her internship while thinking of her mother confined in the hospital and being seriously ill.

she told me she wanted to talk to Laurice.  Papunta pa ako sa malapit na coffee shop sa school.  Pumasok pala siya to run some errands regarding her scholarship for the next semester incoming fourth year.

Napansin ko kaagad siya sa right side ng coffee shop habang nakatingin sa labas ng glassed wall.  Mukhang malalim ang iniisip ng baby ko.  

Tinabihan ko na siya.  Hinapit ko ito kaagad sa bewang pagkaupo ko.  I kissed her head sniffing on her fragrant hair.  Ambango talaga ng baby ko.  "You ordered for us?" malambing na tanong ko sa kanya.  I noticed her face turned red as tomato.   She awkwardly smiled at me on her bitten red lips and nodded.  

So she ordered frozen caramel machiatto for us.  Pareho pala kami ng gusto.  she just wanted the frappe one.  Might as well, try liking it too.  I smirked with the thought.  At least may baseline kami- yun ay ang Caramel Machiatto.

I cleared my throat while biting on the baked goodies, varieties of cookie.  aotmeal, choco sprinkle, white choco burst at nutty.  It is tender unlike some other cookies I've tasted.  There is also green tea cheese cake.  "I talked to mom about having a one-week break.  She agreed."

"Really?" her eyes beamed with so much happiness.  Mukhang nakabitin pa ang pagsipsip niya ng frappe sa straw.  Can I be like that damn straw? "Thank you so much, Matt.  I owe you a lot."  Anything for you, baby.

"Mom wants to talk to you."  I felt her body stiffened with what I said.  Nagulat ko ba siya?  Teka, ayaw ba niyang kausapin siya ng future mother-in-law niya?

"Why?" halos pabulong na tanong sa akin.  

"I think she wanted to offer you something important.  Let's finish this and we'll find out later together."  excited na sambit ko.  I don't want her to feel uncomfortable eh si mommy lang naman ang kakausapin niya.

"Iho, Kamusta na? You look... great!"  sinipat pa niya ako bago tapusin ang papuri niya sa akin.  That's my mom.  Ever sweet as she is.  "Never been this good mom!" I hugged her back.  Sobrang na miss ko ang mga yakap niya.  I have been a mommy's boy.  sabi pa niya, I am always her baby boy daw.  Akalain mo yun.  Hindi pa siya nakaka move on doon na stage. 

Lumipat ang mga mata niya sa kasama ko.  "You must be Laurice.  Oh, I finally met you.  Thank you, iha"  makahulugang bati nito kay Laurice.  Mom huwag niyo naman akong ibuking.  Pambihira naman oh.  Nalilito naman ang mga mata nitong tumingin sa akin habang yakap siya ng aking butihing ina.  Pakiyakap na lang din ako sa kanya mommy.  I just smile at her and urged her to hug mom back and she gladly obliged.

"Hi po." nahihiyang balik bati nito kay mommy.  Namumula na din ang mukha nito na parang kamatis.  Ganito siya palagi kapag nahihiya or whenever she feels uncomfortable. 

"Huwag ka ng mahiya.  Just call me Tita Bella.  Pasok kayo.  Paolo, nasa library lang ang daddy mo.  You might want to see him, son.  Tagal na ninyong hindi nagkikita."  narinig ko na sabi ni mommy.  Mukhang ayaw niya na malaman ko ang anumang pag-uusapan nila.  Humingi naman ng saklolo ang mga tingin ni Laurice sa akin.  Nilapitan ko siya at hinawakan sa likod.  Nasabi ko bang touchy na ako sa kanya ngayon?  I kissed her temple habang nasa kusina si mommy at kumuha ng lemonade.  Iyon naman kasi ang paborito naming lahat na inumin.   

"Chill.  Mom won't bite.  Whatever it is, I know it's for your own good, okay?"  I pulled her closer and kissed on her temple.  Napapikit pa ako habang ginawa iyon.  Sarap talaga sa ilong ang amoy niya.  She smells so fresh and enticing.

Bahagya niya akong kinurot sa gilid.  Napadilat tuloy ako ng mata.  There I saw my mother, nakahalukipkip na ito at tinaasan ako ng kilay.  "So Paolo? Didn't I tell you to see your father?"  

"Yeah mom, sabi ko nga aakyat na ako."  I mouthed I be back later kay Laurice.  Matamis naman siyang ngumiti sa akin.

"I heared you Paolo.  Until I say so." sabi pa ni mommy habang tumatawa.  Taas kamay naman akong umalis.  Narinig ko pa ang hagikhikan ng dalawa habang ako'y paakyat sa library.  Time to see the old guy that never gets old.  I grinned with the thought.
