Zarah's P.O.V

I stepped out of my room on hearing the muffled miserable cry. I could not ignore them any longer. It was so early in the morning, the sun was not out yet. I walked down the hall slowly trying to locate where the sound was coming from. I stopped at her door. I knocked but there was no reply. I didn't expect her to answer if she figured out it was me, maybe she did. I stood by the door and waited. I heard the heavy breathing beside the door and I knocked again. Just like before, as I did there was sudden silence on the other side. I remained by the door. She knew it was me, based on how close the rooms were I would be the first one to hear her. I stood there in silence waiting on her to make a sound. I waited and waited but nothing.I knocked again.

"Is there something wrong. Would you like me to get Ladonna for you?" I instantly registered what I asked and regretted it. Ladonna made it clear that she had no liking towards me, she doesn't trust me and it will be hard to get her attention.

"Hello, Kiya?"

"Yes?" There was a delayed answer that sounded half dead.

"Would you like to get one of your hand maidens? Do you need my help?" I did not feel natural to say those words to her. Never in my life would I have thought those words would be said by me. It felt out my nature and I did not understand the feeling. Maybe it was me committing to my word.

"Come in," the door was pulled for me to enter.

She sat by the door doubled over in discomfort .I did not know how to react, I did not expect for her to let me in. I was not prepared for this to happen, I was more prepared to face Ladonna.

"You look like a dying person ," were the only words that fell from my mouth. she gave me a sharp glance.

" Do you want to go?" She said. " You offered me help? Is this what your help is?"

"This is new for me..."

"I can imagine," she rolled her eyes and turned her head away from me.

"Would you like me to help you up?"

" If I move I will feel worse."

I looked around the room as I tried to find something helpful to say to her but I had nothing at all. Soon something clicked.

" I think I know what would help calm you," She had a skeptical look on her face but it soon vanished like she had no choice but to try my suggestion.

"I will take anything."

This was the first step of trust for me. I stepped outside and soon came back with a steaming liquid . I carefully sat on the floor beside her and handed her the tea making sure her shaking hand held the cup properly. I kept my hands over hers for safety.

" What is this?" She asked looking over into the cup.

"It is te-" she looked up at me with sharp eyebrows cutting me off. " It is a mixture of ginger, rosemary and honey.Rosemary makes me really sleepy so maybe it will make you sleepy also so you can rest peacefully. you need to drink it while it is still steaming for the full effect. I will not work cold."

She looked at it skeptically then she looked at me before nodding.

"I can do it on my own," She said looking at my hands. I slowly removed my hands but hers started to shake once more.

" I will spill," I placed my hands back over hers. "I will help this once." She sighed deeply but nodded and allowed me to help her. She avoided eye contact the entire time I helped her, I did not mind because it would be strange for her to look at me . I took the cup from her when she was finished. " Rest for a moment and then I can help you up. I do not think you like to fall asleep here if it works."

She leaned her head on the wall.

"I am feeling much better," She breathed out.

"It works fast," I smiled.

" Do I look less like a dying person?"

I held my head down. " I did not know what to say and I just said said something."

" I figured this was not in your natural order," she gave a weak chuckle.

"True. "

" Must have taken a lot out of you," She mocked

" So much," I sighed.

" Everything aside, thank you... for your help. I feel... less dead." she gave a small smile.

" You are... welcome."

" I think the sleep is coming."

" Let me help you up then," I got up and streached out my hand for her to take.

"You are getting good at this," she took my hand and I pulled her up.

"I am a fast learner."

She made it over to the bed on her own and she settled in. She rolled up in a ball and let out a deep sigh.

"Finally comfortable."

" You will be sleeping very soon and wake up as if this never even happened."

"I hope so."

I made my way to the door. "I will call Aa to get the cup  when I see him," I yawned.

"I forgot it was this early."

"Yes."

"Wait, did you make the te-"

"Yes I did it on my own." I cut her off. "Is that a problem?" I asked.

" Well... no ."

" I can do things on my own you know. I am not as helpless as I look, I know how to survive without help from others."

"I will remember that."

I left the room and closed to doors. I felt as if I never slept. I dragged my feet back to my room. Two days, two incidents. I helped in both. Is this a test? Did I pass it? I wondered all these things as I crawled in my now cold bed.

"How nice," I mumbled as the cold came in contact with my body. I closed my eyes to see how much sleep I could get before sunrise. I am eager to know how the rest of the day will turn out.
