19 : " To Love Or Not To Love You "

"What was that? "

"I am trying to ask myself the same thing."

"It sounded like an argument about a plate to me."

"Are you blind? That was not the main reason why she was angry,"Kiya said.

"What is that suppose to mean?"

"You are being naïve Pharaoh."

"I told you not to call me that,"Khai said in a low and upset tone.

"Right now I feel like I am suppose to call you that."

"What are you trying to say Kiya?"

"She really cares for you."

"Of course she does, we are close friends for years."

"I mean more."

"Seriously!" Khai frustratedly exclaimed.

"Yes, and all that about your father's last request before he passed."

"This does not concern my father."

Kiya sighed as she turned to leave the balcony."

"This is not finished,"Khai held onto her hand.

"What more is there?"

"You know the reason why we are in what we are in more than anyone and right now or ever, I am not letting you go."

"As I said before, I am not won over,"Kiya said plainly as she pulled her hand from Khai's grip before leaving.

"This is not necessary,"Khai said as he followed behind her.

"True this is not necessary so do the right thing."

"This is the right thing!"

"Do not be difficult. As much as I wanted to slap her for what she said, I feel this is the correct thing to do. She really does love you and I can tell she feels awful that you do not acknowledge that."

"You think I do not know what it feels like to be loving someone who does not want to take it?"

"Why are you doing it to her?" Kiya sighed.

"Why are you doing it to me ?"

"This is different!"

"Is it really Kiya? Is it really?"

She folded her arms but did not reply.

"You look beautiful. I really could not keep my eyes off you ,not even for a moment."

"Of course I am beautiful, I would not take my eyes off me either."

"And you want me to leave all of that?"

"I do not want to answer that question and how did the topic change so quickly?"

"So you can stop telling me nonsense about doing the 'right thing' " Khai air quoted.

"I will not fight with you."

"Good."

"Well at least not today,"Kiya added as she headed for the door.

"Where are you going?"

"She has been crying ever since the dinner. I am sure you heard her."

Kiya walked down the halls to the room where Zahra stayed and knocked on the door.

"Princess, are you there?"

"No I have gone!"Zahra replied

"Ha, how smart of you. May I come in?"

"Do whatever you wish!"

"You would not like me to fulfill that wish dear Princess Zahra,"Kiya said as she entered.

"Why do you come here ?"

"I heard you crying. I know that you detest my very spirit at this moment, but as awful as the light you see me in is, I still care that you have been crying for along time."

"I detest no one,"she said sternly.

"Well, I am having a hard time believing that dear Princess. I did not choose to be here but was choose. I am not here to hurt you in any way or cause you distress."

"Is the hurt and distress not inevitable for me? No matter what you say you will still cause my pain and distress whether willfully or not."

"I do apologize."

"Do you love him? Can you love him as I do ? Can you even love him as a friend?"

Kiya opened her mouth but remained silent .

"Hmm. You remain silent? You see, I had many friends but Khai was the best one. From childhood we watched each other grow and mature to be who we are at this moment. Then when the request was made for my hand by his family, I thought that this was the will if the Gods, that they brought us together for an important reason that they know about and would reveal it to us in the future. Then in the middle of the preparations, my stepmother bursts into my room breathless telling me to stop all preparations because he is calling it off. I only laughed at this as I thought this was only a trick. Now look at this, you are not even from here."

"I from here but just not in this era," Kiya mumble.

"Hmm, not to worry I will not be intruding for long. I will be leaving in two days time ."

"I am sorry for any trouble I caused," Kiya said as she turned to exit the room.

She walked slowly to hers and dropped herself on the bed. She closed her eyes and let out a deep sigh.

"Why are still standing there ?" Kiya said as she glanced at Khai who was in the corner. "Hiding in the shadows does not suit you."

"What did she say?"

"Not much actually. She just talked about the history of your friendship."

"Just that? "

"She said she will not be intruding anymore because in the next two days she will be leaving."

"Oh."

"Oh? What do you mean oh?" Kiya sat up.

"What did I say wrong?"

"Do you care how she feels?"

"I do but that is how Zahra is. Not to get attention but just because."

"Why do I feel like I care so much more than you and I have not known her for a complete day."

"You want to care , that is the reason why."

"I cannot help myself," Kiya sighed.

"So stop letting things like this bother you."

Kiya sprawled across the bed and closed her eyes.

"Sleep, that is much better than this,"Khai said as he jumped down on the bed.

"Ughh! Then why are you disturbing it?" Kiya got up miserable.

"You need something before you go to sleep."

"What?"

"Just something that I need to give you."

"What 'thing' is that?"Kiya air quoted.

Without a word Khai turned her head around and kissed her on her cheeks which were now heated.

"You could not sleep without that."
