on driving to you

66 9 2

the only stars i've seen in awhile are the
headlights passing by
yellow lamp lit highways
a gradient sky of blue and gray
tunnel vision on the road

drug abuse correctional center
beer
mobil
be apart of something big

46 miles
17 miles
emergency stopping only
take control

a hand on the steering wheel, the other outstretched
across the console expecting you
to meet me halfway

passing train tracks and freeways
to country side and city lights
blinking stop and go, pick and choose
window down

those tired eyes pass through my mind
black shadows against a midnight sky
leaves skitter across my window and i wonder if the speed limit
was 2mph higher i could get to you sooner

but you wouldn't want me anyways
