Jace

"Ah, the first day of the school year," I sigh.

"Let's just get our schedules from the office, so we're not late on our first day," Izzy proclaims.

We walk into the office and are greeted by the secretary. "Hi, you're the new kids, right?" she asks.

"Yep," I reply with a little smile. She hands Izzy, Alec, and I are schedules.

Then, a scrawny kid walks up to us. "Class starts in 5 minutes," he begins. "Where are my manners, my name is Simon. I'll be showing you around today, since we all have the same shedule."

We're on our way social studies with Mr. Mac, when I spot her. Damn, she's pretty, I think. "Who's that?" I ask Simon as I point to her.

"That is Clarissa, she's my best friend," Simon proudly proclaims. "She has social studies with us. I could introduce you, I'd you'd like."

"Thanks buddy, but I think I got it from here," I laugh and walk over to her.

"I don't think you should to that-," Simon begins, but I just keep walking.

"Hi, I'm Jace," I say. I hold my hand out and she coils back. I can tell my face did that, what just happened thing, because she looks at me and her Emerald eyes get huge. She hides her hands in her huge sweater and starts biting her lip. "Sorry, I didn't mean to startle you," I apologize.

"It....it's okay," she stutters and walks towards Simon. What just happened? She didn't even look interested in me. She went straight for Simon. They must be dating, I think as I replay what just happened in my head. I run to catch up to them.

Clarissa

I'm looking at my book, when someone startles me. I look up and see a hand outstretched. I can't help, but flinch, when I see it. He looks at me really strangely and says, "Sorry, I didn't mean to startle you."

"It....it's okay," I stutter and walk towards Simon. Great job Clary. You've managed to scare away the only boy, besides Simon, who's ever been nice to you.

Jace

"Hey, you didn't tell me you two were a couple," I nudge Simon.

"We're not a couple," Simon blushes as Clarissa holds his arm. "Clarissa and I are best friends. Have been, since first grade."

The bell rings and we're late for our first class. At least Simon, Clarissa, and I are. Alec and Izzy left after I asked about Clarrisa. Rushing into our first class, I take an open seat by Alec. Clarissa sits to my left while Simon sits to her left.

"I know it's the first day, but I thought we should dive in head first," Mr. Mac excitedly explains.

I look over to see Clarissa doodling in her notebook. Carefully, I watch her as she draws. Her hands barely poke out of her extra large grey sweater sleeves. I can't see where her pants begin, but they end past her feet. She must get cold a lot, I decide.

Clarissa

I look up a few times, so Mr. Mac thinks I'm listening and I see Jake (I think that's his name) staring at me. Trying to avoid blushing, I concentrate on my drawing. The feel of the soft graphite sliding across the paper. The small strokes my hand makes as if on autopilot.

Jace

The rest of my classes are excruciating, as I impatiently wait, until lunch, so I can talk to this beautiful red head again.

Lunch

Finally, I can talk to her again. I slowly sit down next to her at the lunch table. "Hey," I say. "Do you remember me, we talked earlier this morning. I saw your drawings, during class and I just wanted to tell you, they're amazing!"

"Thanks," she mumbles, but doesn't look at me. Her cheeks get red.

Clarissa

I'm eating my pizza in peace, waiting for Simon, when I feel someone sit down next to me. The thought of someone that close sends chills down my back and my hands start shaking. I know it's not Simon, because he knows to announce himself first. He knows why I get jumpy and he's still my friend. I'm trying to figure out how to leave quickly without making any commotion, when someone says,"Hey, Do you remember me, we talked earlier this morning. I saw your drawings, during class and I just wanted to tell you, they're amazing!"

I look over and see Jace. Don't scare him away again. He's just being nice. "Thanks," I quietly reply. My cheeks get red at the compliment.

Jace

We sit there in silence as I try to think of what to say to her. Eventually, the bells rings telling us we have to get to our last class of the first day.

I get home and can't stop thinking about Her. Something about her is nagging me. She seemed almost scared of me when I first met her. Strange reaction to someone you don't even know, I thought. Then in social studies, I couldn't keep my eyes off of her. I don't even want to remember how stupid I was at lunch. She probably thinks I'm a complete imbecile.

But her eyes and her curly red hair, they are all I can see, when I close my eyes and try to go to sleep.

Clarissa

As I try to do my Algebra homework on my bed, I can't help, but think about that boy, Jake. How his golden eyes would sparkle when they hit the light (I may have stared at him for a while, when he wasn't looking) and how genuinely interested he seemed to be talking to me. I know he's way out of my league, but, wait, when did I start thinking of him like that? I interrupt my thoughts. He'll never like me like that, so I should just forget about it.

But his cute soft smile, that I've only seen him give me, is all I can see, when I close my eyes and try to go to sleep.
