Jace

"It's Izzy!" Izzy shouts. "I need to talk to Clarissa for a second!"

"Come on, we're trying to finish our project," I whine. In all reality, I'm trying to stall so Red can recompose herself. Her face is cherry red. She must be embarrassed for being almost walked in on. There may or may not be a few areas of her body that have saliva, that may or may not belong to me. I really did a number on her hair. She's currently trying to get that under control. "I'll send her to your room in...three minutes," I negotiate. That was amazing! I've never had a "project" like that. Just the way Red feels...it's something special I've never felt before. When I was telling her all of those things, I had no doubt about them. Everything about her is just.....special.

"Okay, but then I want her for a while," Izzy whines.

"Sounds like a plan," I reply. Izzy leaves, and I have to bite my tongue to stifle a laugh. "Red, I'll finish up the homework. You go have fun with Izzy?" I question.

I really hope she knows I'm not ordering her to do this. I really tried to make it sound like a question. "Sure okay thanks," Red replies. Thank the Angel! She must've heard it in my tone or something.

Red goes to spend some much needed time with Izzy. They haven't been able to hang out for a while. I hope it's not too awkward for Red. Izzy doesn't know that Red and I are dating. I wouldn't mind, but something's got Red apprehensive about telling people. I'll have to get to the bottom of that. I finish the art project, and it makes me smile. Well, technically it makes me think of Red and that makes me smile. See she is the artist who came up with the idea, I'm just the dope she decided to work with. I feel almost as if I was standing next to Michelangelo sometimes. When she gets an idea or is passionate about something, I feel so mundane.

Eventually, Red and Izzy finish whatever it is they were doing and I take Red home. We don't talk much in the car. Red is radio searching, and she stops on "Fix You," by Coldplay. I know Red likes it when I sing, so I sing for her.

When you try your best but you don't succeed

When you get what you want but not what you need

When you feel so tired but you can't sleep

Stuck in reverse

When the tears come streaming down your face

When you lose something you can't replace

When you love someone but it goes to waste

Could it be worse?

Red smiles at me as I sing. When we get to her house, I pull into her driveway and she gets out. Once I get home, I go straight to bed. Who knew "projects" could be so strenuous?

This morning, I go to pick Red up and she doesn't come down. I decide to call her later, in case she's sick or something. It's best to let people sleep when their sick, right?

Lunch

I am at lunch sitting with Alec, Izzy, Simon, and Magnus. They're talking in their prospective couples, and I'm sitting there thinking about Red. Is she okay? Did I do something to make her mad?

The bell rings, and I trudge to math. Sitting there, I can't concentrate, my heads is dizzy with concern. Is Red okay? It's work time, so I walk up to Mrs. Pinol's desk. "I..I don't feel very good," I explain. "I'm really dizzy, I... I can't concentrate. Can I go to the nurse, please?"

"Yes Jace, do you want someone to talk with you?" Mrs. Pinol asks. Who should I get to come with me...Simon! He'll know what's going on with Red.

"Ma...maybe Simon," I suggest.

"Okay, Simon," Mrs. Pinol calls. He walks towards us. "Can you please accompany Jace to the nurses office please?"

"Of course," Simon accepts, and we walk to the office. Simon has a bit of trouble supporting me, but he figures it out.

Once we're in the hallway. "Hey Simon, do you know what's going on with Clarissa? I went by to pick her up today and she never came down," I ask.

"Hmmm, she didn't mention anything to me," Simon confusingly replies. A look of concern fills his eyes.

"Thanks anyway, Simon," I offer. We walk in silence the rest of the way.

"Hello, what can I help you with today?" The nurse politely greets.

"My name is Jace Herondale, my head is pounding, and I'm dizzy. I can't concentrate enough to read," I explain as Simon carefully slides me into a chair. "You can leave Simon, I'll be okay."

"Are you kidding me? I'm not leaving you here. As long as you're okay with me staying, Mrs. Stewart," Simon confirms.

"Of course Simon," Mrs. Stewart smiles. How often does Simon come to the nurse? She seems pretty well acquainted with Simon.

Mrs. Stewart proceeded to take my temperature. "It seems you don't have a fever, but your head is sweating. Are you nervous about something? A test? A bad breakup perhaps? An argument with a friend? A sport?"

"Something like that," I reply.

"Okay, well I think the best thing to do would to go home and rest. Simon, would you mind driving Jace home?" Mrs. Stewart asks.

"No problem," Simon responds. We walk out of the school and get into my car. I'm a little concerned about Simon driving my baby. I don't let anyone else drive her, but I've got to see Red. Red is more important than some car.

"Simon, I want you to take me to Clarissa's house. I don't want to hear any objections or I'll drive there myself," I declare

"Okay, calm down, I'm not going to argue. I'm worried about her too," Simon defends. With that, we silently drive to Red's house. As much as I want to get to Red, I have to wait for Simon to help me. I'm pretty sure my current condition is stress induced, so when I know Red's okay, hopefully my head will calm down. We approach the door and Simon knocks. "Clarissa, it's Jace and Simon. Please let us in or we'll use the key under the door."

What's up with Clarrisa? Is she okay? Will she answer Jace and Simon?
