Adeline's P.O.V
I sat there holding my dad's bleeding chest as Archie drove terribly to the hospital. My heart was beating fast. Everything felt like slow motion to me.
"Dad stay with us," I said. My body was shaking from fear.
"Don't move your hand, Adeline," Archie told me.
"Hurry, Archie," I begged.
"I'm trying! Hold on, Dad, hold on. We're almost there. They're gonna fix you up. Stay with me, Dad, stay with me," Archie said as he drove.
By the time we got to the hospital, Archie got out dad while I opened the doors for them.
"Help, please," I yelled for the nurses and doctors.
"Help, hey! Someone help me and my dad," Archie said.
"Gurney!" A nurse yelled.
"What happened to him?" A doctor asked as they put our dad on a gurney.
"He was... He was shot," Archie said. I held onto him. I couldn't believe this.
So many thoughts ran through my mind. Why? What was this person's motivation to shoot our dad? What's going to happen to Archie and I?
"Sir, can you hear me? Can you tell me your name?" The nurse asked.
"His name's Fred Andrews," I said to the nurse.
"He's not responding," The nurse said.
"Massive blood loss, it looks. Let's go."
"He's in shock."
"Sir, I'm sorry, I need you and your sister to step away," The doctor said.
"One, two, three!" The EKG kept beeping making me even more scared.
"We're right here, dad. We're right here," Archie said.
"Dad," I said, heartbroken. Archie pulled me close to him as I cried into his chest.
"Okay? We're right here," Archie yelled at him before they closed the door on us.
"Excuse me. I need you both to back away from the door," A nurse said to us. Archie pulled me away before we went to the waiting room.
Archie put me on a chair as I stared out to the wall in shock. I stared at the white, blank space as I was in my thoughts. Archie called up Betty for her to come over. Once he was done, Archie sat next to me, holding onto me.
It felt like a long time. We waited for Betty to come or for any updates on our dad. I leaned against Archie as he held onto me.
"Archie. Adeline," We both looked up to see everyone we knew. We stood up as they hugged us tightly.
"Sit down and tell us what happened," Betty said.
I could feel myself about to break out crying again. I couldn't hold back anymore. I shook my head as I cried. Mrs. Cooper walked over to me and gave me a hug.
"Adeline, are you okay? Can you tell us what happened?" She asked. I tried to say something but no words came out.
"She's scared. She doesn't talk when she's in shock," Archie told her.
"It's okay."
Veronica came to me and helped me move to the chairs. I sat down next to Archie as he held my hand. I leaned my head onto his shoulder as they talked. I barley payed attention until the adults came back to us.
"There isn't any new information. Your dad's in surgery. He's gonna be there for a while," Mrs. Cooper said.
"Uh, Archie or Adeline. Have you spoken to your mother about any of this yet?" Mrs. Lodge asked us as she squatted down to our height. I shook my head at her as a response.
"No. No, I haven't called her. I'll be right back. Someone, please watch Adeline," Archie said. He got up and left us. I looked at my hands and clothes. It had my dad's blood making me feel uncomfortable.
"Can someone take me home? I need to get out of these clothes," I said.
"We'll take you home. Let Archie know," Mrs. Cooper told Betty.
"Of course," Betty said.
I got up and walked out with Mr. and Mrs. Cooper. I got inside their car before they drove off to our house. I got the hidden key and opened up the door. I walked in while Mrs. Cooper closed the door behind her.
"I'll try to hurry up," I told her quietly.
"Take as much time as you need," She told me. I nodded at her before going upstairs to shower and change into new clothes.
I stared at the picture of our family on my wall. I took in a deep breath before grabbing my purse. I made sure that I had everything I needed before walking downstairs.
"Mr. and Mrs. Cooper. I'm ready to go back to the hospital," I said to them.
"I can't imagine on what you're going throw right now, Adeline. If you need anything just call me or Hal alright? We'd be glad to help and support you," Mrs. Cooper tells me.
"Thank you for your support. Archie and I really appreciate it," I told her.
"Let's go now. Give your brother a chance to clean up," Mr. Cooper said. I nodded before following them back into the car.
