Thirty Four

Adeline's P.O.V

I walked downstairs to see the FBI guy talking to dad. Their attention went to me as I stood there staring at the two.

"Adeline. This is-"

"Agent Adams. Nice to meet you," He said to me. I gave him a fake smile.

"I thought I heard noises. I'm going to get some fresh air," I told them before walking outside.

I sat in the front porch until Archie came home. I stood up as soon as he came over.

"Adeline. What are you doing out here?" Archie asked me.

"He's here," I told him.

"What?"

We walked back inside where I showed him where Agent Adams and dad were. I went back upstairs to hide in my room. I lied down on my bed as I had negative thoughts about all this.

The next day, I watched on the news that Mayor McCoy was stepping down as mayor. I was with my dad as we watched the TV together.

"You need to get to school," Dad told me.

"Alright," I nodded before going to school.

I stood by my locker until I felt someone's hand on my shoulder. I jumped up in surprise before turning to see Archie there. I sighed in relief before hugging him.

"Don't scare me like that," I told him.

"Adeline. Are you alright?" Archie asked me.

"Just shaken up," I told him.

"I'm sorry you got tangled up into this mess," Archie told me. I thought about something before letting out a sarcastic laugh.

"What?" Archie asked me.

"I just thought of this. If you had never dated Veronica, this wouldn't happen. I like Veronica. I do. She's nice, but her family is trouble. Full of it," I tell him.

"What about Sweet Pea?"

"Never has he once put me into danger. Every danger that happened, he made sure that I was somewhere safe and know less than what I should know. For gods sake, I don't even know what debt he had to pay when he got out of being arrest," I tell him.

"Adeline-"

"Look Archie, I think at this point, you need to set out your priorities," I tell him before walking to class.
