Adeline's P.O.V

I sat next to my dad as we were having dinner with the Lodge family. Archie sat next to Veronica while Mr. and Mrs. Lodge sat at the ends of the table. I sat next to dad during the dinner. I smiled as they were remembering old memories when they were young.

"If you remember correctly, the only house in Riverdale with a pool was Thornhill..." Mr. Lodge said.

"There we were, two drunk, dumb teenagers looking to cool off..." Dad continued.

"Why didn't you just go to the quarry?" Archie asked.

"Or Sweetwater River?" I asked.

"Oh, what I remember is someone borrowing the school van for a joy ride you and Mary..." Dad said. When he mentioned mom, my smile fell just a tiny bit.

"No, that was Alice, not us," Mrs. Lodge defended.

"Oh, my God, this sounds like an episode of Saved by the Bell," Veronica said. I took a sip of my water.

"Hey, Fred, before you head off, why don't you join Hermione and me in the study? I have this -year-old rum. I think you'll love it," Mr. Lodge asked.

"Well, I can't say no to that," Dad said.

"Veronica, stay with Archie and Adeline?"

"Mmm-hmm."

"So, how are you both?" I asked them.

"We're good."

"What do you think they're talking about?" I asked.

"About the mayor election. My parents want your dad to run for it," Veronica told me. I nodded before taking another sip of my drink.

During the car ride home, Archie didn't seem to like the idea of dad running for mayor.

"Dad, is this something you're seriously considering?" Archie asked dad. Dad let out a sigh.

"Being mayor is something I dreamed about ever since I was a little kid, son, in the back of my mind. And I know Riverdale's had a lot of downs lately but maybe, I can help get it back up on an upswing," Dad told him.

"And you don't think it's weird that Mr. Lodge is asking you to run?"

"He's not dumb, son. He spends a lot of money in Riverdale. It makes sense he wants a friend in the mayor's office."

"Will he pay for your campaign?" I asked dad.

"He offered to make a donation to help me get going, but... But to be clear, if I decide to run, it won't be for him, it'll be for Riverdale. For me. For you both," Dad told us. I nodded before leaning my head to the side.
