I was so close to freezing but I gathered all the willpower I had to act normal.
"Doon ba tayo mag-uusap o tatabi nalang ako sa'yo rito?" Treble's voice sent weird shivers down my spine.
"Omg!" Rolan exclaimed. "Tara, Jen, samahan mo ako du'n sa photobooth."
Mga traydor! Lagot kayo sa akin mamaya!
"Sige, tara." Sagot naman ni Jenna sabay exit na sila ni Rolan. Tingan mo tong mga hayop, nang-iiwan sa ere!
"Pano ba yan? They gave us the privacy we need so I'm gonna have to sit here..." He said and then I felt the couch go down with his weight. "...beside you."
Bakit ba kasi halos couches and sofa ang upuan dito?
"Hey..." He cooed.
Anak ng pitong gatang! Ako ba'y talagang sinusubukan ng kalangitan?
"Get lost." I muttered.
"Look, Denzel, I'm sorry. I terribly am. Sana—"
His speech was cut off rudely by the emcee's introduction: "Please welcome on stage, the Dean of the College of Social Sciences and Philosophy...Dr. Marco Saldana!"
It's time for the book game!
"Good evening, students." Sir Marco spoke against the microphone. For a second, it felt like I was watching Treble because they looked so damn alike, lalo na kapag malayo. Medyo magka-boses rin sila.
"I'm not going to bore you out so I'm just going to ask two questions. I have two quotations here, each coming from a distinct book, and you just need to give me the title of the book and its author. Game?"
"Game! Game!" The crowd chanted. Nanahimik muna si Treble sa tabi ko.
"Okay. The first one goes like this: She says nothing at all, but simply stares upward into the dark sky and watches, with sad eyes, the slow dance of the infinite stars."
I'm sure it's one of Neil Gaiman's books. Saglit, ano nga ba'ng title nu'n?
"That guy seems like he knows the answer. Halika sa stage..." Sir Saldana invited the student. Pumanhik naman ito sa stage.
"Are you confident about your answer?" Tanong pa ni Sir sa kaniya.
"Opo."
"And the answer is?"
"Stardust by Neil Gaiman." The male student replied. Apparently, he was right. He was awarded with a book for that and then the Dean moved on to the next question.
"Here it is," he said. "*All endings are also beginnings. We just don't know it at the time."
I watched him as he walked away like a defeated warrior. The next thing I knew, somebody else had come up the stage to give the correct answer and she was given a book just like the first winner.
It was my chance, and yet it slipped away so easily because of an overly sensitive someone. Napabuntong hininga ako. I'm hungry, upset, pissed...
"Ano'ng nangyari?" Rolan rushed back to our table with Jenna.
"Ewan ko sa bwisit na 'yun." Sagot ko. "Kayo ha, wag niyo akong iniiwan sa ere nang ganu'n."
Ngumiti lang sila, umupo at hindi nagtagal ay oras na para kumain. I've waited long enough for this. Hindi pa man ako nakakapagsimula ay nakaka-tempt na mag-round two...
