XL: EPILOGUE

Treble's POV

Months later...

She's been bugging me about this for some time now, every morning when I'm getting ready for work.

"Don't you have any work to do?" I replied. "How's your new book going?"

Why did you lie to me then?"

"Lie?"

"Oo." She nodded.

I straightened my posture and looked at her seriously. "Sinong nagsabing hindi kita nahanap?"

"Hindi naman talaga! Eh di sana nakita kita." She crossed her arms over her chest.

"Just because you didn't see me, doesn't mean I wasn't there." I answered.

"Weh? You were watching me from afar? Hmm... How is that any different from stalking?!" Her brows furrowed.

"This is why I don't talk about it. You'll start to ask me things, then you'll find out what I saw back then and when it's my turn to ask, you'd never answer me because you don't like what I saw."

I reached for her hand and touched the scar on the back of her palm. When I asked her about this, she never answered me honestly, but I was fine with it. I am in no position to force her to remember things that would make her sad.

But I knew. I always knew.

"It was the year 2017. After you disappeared, I exhausted all means to find you. My intention was only to apologize, so we'd both forget about the past and move on with our separate lives."

"Kaso hindi mo ako nahanap?"

"Nahanap nga kita." I insisted. "It was the day you got this scar."

"Huh?" She's still not fully healed yet, but so am I. So is everyone else. People have their own wounds— some fresh and some had turned into scars—but that's life and we can't force people to heal if it's not yet time for healing. Sometimes we just have to be patient with one another.

"It's something that you don't have to hide from me, 'cause I already know but I also won't force you to talk about it because I respect you and your choices." I assured her.

"Wew." She pouted. Nagpakita?"

You were still mad at me then, I knew that. And if I suddenly appear in front of you just when you're in an unpleasant situation, baka lalo lang tayong hindi makapag-usap ng maayos."

She sighed. "Kung yun man, I'm thankful... that you restrained yourself. That was indeed a very ugly moment. It was a scene you ought to just forget."

A corner of my mouth lifted.

She challenged me.
