The boy sat at his desk in front of the big window. He stared down the blank notebook in front of him. His mother had placed him there two hours ago to make him study his French. It wasn't fair.
None of the other kids from school had any homework during Christmas break. 'But Taehyung, you are not like the other kids,' he could hear his mother's voice echo. What if he wanted to be like the other kids?
He grabbed his notebook and chucked it across the room.
He then waltzed over to his bed, and fell down on his back. A sudden wave of excitement then bubbled through him. Tomorrow was his birthday, and Jeongguk was coming over to celebrate it with him. His mother hadn't allowed Taehyung to bring his friend at first, but had agreed, when Taehyung accepted that the younger would get sent home when his family arrived.
Taehyung couldn't understand why Jeongguk was not allowed to celebrate Taehyung's birthday together with his family. If anything, Taehyung would rather spend his birthday with the boy in their hideout, than at his new home with his family.
Even though he had only lived in the town for almost three months, he had already gotten many friends. But none of them were like Jeongguk. Most of them had approached Taehyung at school and in class, asking him about his life. Many of them also wanted to have play dates with him.
Taehyung felt that they were too pushy. Jeongguk had never nagged Taehyung like that.
Besides, Jeongguk's nature was also just way more likable than the kids at school. He was gentle, and treasured each little thing he received from Taehyung. He also wasn't as noisy as the other kids, and never yelled. And he knew so many funny games to play.
Jeongguk was definitely his best friend.
He grabbed his teddybear and held it into the air. The bunny toy also reminded him of Jeongguk. Maybe he should give it to Jeongguk? He had heard from the other boy that he only had one teddy bear, and Taehyung had more than enough of them.
He then decided to give it to the other boy the next day.

"I can't believe you live here!" The younger exclaimed. He looked around the entrance with big eyes, and Taehyung smirked at him. The house was quite extravagant.
"Oh it's nothing." Jeongguk blinked at him.
"Then i live in minus nothing."
Taehyung laughed. A faint red tint appeared on the other boys cheeks.
"That doesn't make sense Gukkie," Taehyung walked over to the other boy, and grabbed his hand to lead him upstairs. "Two negatives make a positive, so if you claim to live in minus nothing, you actually live in plus something."
Jeongguk stared blankly at him.
"In math, don't you know what I'm talking about?" The smaller boy shook his head. "Have you not learned about that yet?" He shook his head again. Taehyung shook his head once with a sigh, but then continued leading Jeongguk to his room.
His room was not far from the stairs, two rooms down at the end of the hallway. He opened the door, and gently pushed the other boy, who was stood completely stiff, inside.
Even though his mother had been against the idea of Taehyung bringing over a friend for his birthday, she still helped Taehyung decorate his room for the festivities. Balloons were scattered all over the floor, and a banner with the words 'Happy Birthday Taehyung' was hanging above his desk. A plate with cookies placed neatly on said desk.
"Welcome to my birthday party!" Taehyung grinned at the other boy. Jeongguk smiled back, and walked up to Taehyung, only to pull him into his embrace, catching the older completely by surprise.
"Happy Birthday TaeTae." Jeongguk giggled into the other boys ear, freeing himself from the embrace, one of his tiny hands being placed on the taller's shoulders instead, the other going for his pocket. He then pulled a poorly wrapped gift out from his jacket, and handed it to Taehyung smiling, a huge smile spread over his face.
Taehyung accepted the gift, and quickly went for the tape, pulling it off. Jeongguk just stared at the boy in anticipation, and held his hands behind his back. Suddenly the wrapping paper was gone, and Taehyung looked down at the object in his hands.
It was a small, hand-carved wooden charm in the shape of a small spruce tree. Or at least a slightly misshapen spruce tree, the sides being uneven, and the tree hanging a bit to the side. The charm was hanging on a dark brown leather string, and Taehyung recognized the string from arts and crafts at school.
But taehyung still liked it. It was made by Gukkie after all.
And so he didn't hesitate to put it around his neck. Jeongguk looked up at him nervously while fiddling with the zipper of his jacket.
"D-Do you like it? I made it all by myself." Jeongguk mumbled. Taehyung grinned at him, and pulled the smaller boy into his embrace.
"I like it very very much. It's so nice Gukkie." Taehyung's grip tightened around Jeongguk, and he soon started ruffling the other boy's hair. But Jeongguk was having none of that, putting up a fight, and soon the two boys were tumbling around on the floor.
The rest of Taehyung's two-person birthday party went on quicker than he anticipated. No cookies were left on the plate on his desk, and his mother had gotten well over five heart attacks from all of the balloons the boys accidentally popped during another one of their tumbling sessions.
It was first when Jeongguk's mom came to pick him up, that Taehyung remembered one very important thing he had forgotten about.
"Wait one second, I forgot my present to you!" Taehyung exclaimed as he disappeared into the house again, searching through his room for the forgotten gift for Jeongguk. After two minutes of intense searching, he found it.
He then ran downstairs, and smiled at Jeongguk as he held out the small bunny toy. Jeongguk's eyes beamed, before he closed them and shook his head.
"But it's your birthday Tae. I'm not the one who is supposed to get presents."
Taehyung didn't budge, and shoved the teddy bear into Jeongguk's arms.
"It's my birthday, and for my birthday I want you to be happy too," Taehyung said. "Besides I already have too many toys, and I wanted you to have this one."
Jeongguk gaped at the other boy, his small front teeth showing, and blinked once, twice, and then almost jumped over to hug Taehyung. Like a little baby bunny, Taehyung thought.
"Thank you so much TaeTae!" Jeongguk squealed, a bit too loudly, into Taehyung's ear. Taehyung didn't mind much, all of his senses focused on the happy expression on the boy in front of him. He waved at Jeongguk as he left together with his mom, and kept staring after him, long after he was out of sight. Taehyung didn't care much for the rest of the day, or the other guests he would have to host later on. His birthday had already been more than perfect.
