Spring came sooner than expected and suddenly Taehyung was at the end of his first middle school year. It was one of the home weekends, and the weather was astonishingly brilliant. Not a single cloud could be spotted on the blue sea-like sky, and the sun was shining through the treetops, coloring everybody in an early summer tan.

Taehyung's parents had decided it would be the perfect opportunity for a BBQ. Amongst many of Taehyung's parents' friends in their neighborhood, Jeongguk and his mother had also been invited. It had taken Mrs. Jeon aback. She made sure to dress herself and her son in their best attire for the event.

So, here they were, stood outside the door on the front porch of the Kim's mansion, Jeongguk's mother holding onto the meat, and Jeongguk holding the potato salad. Soon the doors were opened by Taehyung's mother, and she greeted them both with a smile, and Jeongguk's mother with a light hug.

"Lina, it's wonderful to see you both here!" She said wholeheartedly, as she looked from her to Jeongguk.

"Taehyung is in his room right now, since he doesn't want to go outside without you." She sighed quietly, before regaining her facial posture. "Here, let me take the potato salad."

Jeongguk nodded at her and handed the salad over, and she smiled as she moved away from the doorway to let Jeongguk and his mother inside.

He ran up the stairs, knowing the way to Taehyung's room by heart.

As he entered Taehyung's room, he saw the older laying in his bed, legs crossed, a book in his hands and Gucci slippers tucked tightly onto his feet.

Taehyung immediately looked up from his book as he heard the door creak, and when he saw the younger boy, he jumped up from the bed, tossing the book aside, and jogging over to hug Jeongguk.

"Is the boarding school good?" Jeongguk muttered into the crease of Taehyung's neck, breathing in the dearly missed scent of his best friend.

"It's boring without you."

Jeongguk giggled, and uncoiled from the hug, only to grab Taehyung's hand, leading him out of the room.

"Don't worry, I'll join you after summer break." Jeongguk said confidently. He couldn't wait to go to the same school as Taehyung again soon.

Taehyung looked at the younger with a giddy smile, barely being able to contain his excitement about seeing Jeongguk again. It truly had been tough without the younger within reach. The school was nice, yeah, but missing Jeongguk took a toll on Taehyung.

Taehyung squeezed Jeongguk's hand, and stopped in his tracks just before the two went downstairs.

"What's up?" Jeongguk asked at the sudden stop. Taehyung sighed, and turned towards Jeongguk so they were facing each other.

"I missed you."

Jeongguk's smile bloomed, and a faint pink shade colored his cheeks. Feeling awkward about being the only flustered one, he stood on his tiptoes to peck Taehyung's cheek.

"Missed ya too." Jeongguk said, before skipping down the stairs and into the backyard, leaving Taehyung baffled, cheeks burning red.

The BBQ was very enjoyable. The two families were able to bond over the grill and delicious food. It was a nice event for all attending. Even Taehyung's sister had decided to leave her room for once to join in on the festivities. Which meant it was definitely something.

After they had eaten, the adults stayed outside on the patio, and Jeongguk and Taehyung went along with some other children to play a game of hide and seek in Taehyung's house. But in the middle of the game, Jeongguk and Taehyung hid together, and ditched the game to talk instead.

Taehyung had told Jeongguk everything about his school, and the new people he had met. Jeongguk had just been laying down beside him, admiring Taehyung's features, as the older continued talking about the events of his daily life.

Jeongguk could spent his entire life admiring Taehyung and looking at him speak, he decided then and there.

But soon after that, Jeongguk and his mother had to return home. So they bid their goodbye's and headed home. As they returned home, Jeongguk could not contain his excitement, and had to tell his mother everything about Taehyung's school.

"Mom, did you hear about Tae's boarding school? It's amazing!" Jeongguk started, as he sat down in the kitchen with his mother. She smiled at him, as she sipped her tea, and he continued. "It's reaally amazing, I promise you. It's so cool! I can't wait to go there."

Jeongguk's mother tensed, but instead of answering right away, she took another sip of her tea.

"Jeongguk," she began. Jeongguk looked warily at her, noticing the change in her tone. "You do know that you can't go to Taehyung's middle school next year."

Jeongguk noticed his breath hitching silently, and it felt like his heart stopped. What?

His mother looked at him, as she set down her cup and folded her hands. "You've already been accepted into Mountgale Public Middle School. I thought I already told you this." Jeongguk shook his head. He would have remembered.

"I have to go there, I promised him." Jeongguk said quietly, his own heartbeat picking up the pace.

"It's just not financially possible for us right now, Jeongguk." His mother sighed.

"What do you mean? Make it be possible, I promised Tae I would go to his school!"

"Jeongguk, it's not that simple."

"I promised him!" He then stood up abruptly, and started making his way to his room.

"Jeongguk-" his mother started, but Jeongguk kept walking to his room, making sure to slam the door hard when he entered it.

As he dumped himself onto his bed, his anger slowly shifted into something else. Sadness. He sniffed once, twice, and dried his nose in his sleeve, before turning onto his side, facing away from the door.

How was he supposed to break the news to Taehyung?

Jeongguk cried silently that night, only stopping once sleep took over him.
