Winter had come to a stop, and spring had taken over, bringing life and color to all things, only to leave for Summer to warm everybody from the chilly spring breezes, and the colorful windbreakers worn on every occasion available, being stuffed back into the back of the closets. Children were playing underneath the burning sun, smeared in sunscreen from head to toe, while the adults were hidden away in the shade, talking about the latest episode of whichever show was popular that week, and sharing recipes for them to bring to the next neighborhood BBQ.
Jeongguk was sitting in his small backyard, sun kissing his skin and dotting his soft cheeks with the most subtle amount of freckles. He looked up from his toys, and at the growing amount of clouds on the sky.
After the first episode with the bullies and Taehyung, the bullying had stopped. At least that was what Taehyung knew of. The physical bullying had stopped, yes, but cruel notes were occasionally left on his desk after lunch break, or in the morning.
Jeongguk would have asked Yugyeom if he had seen anything, but the notes were only left when Yugyeom was together with Jeongguk, and not in the classroom. Jeongguk had considered eating lunch without Yugyeom, so that he wouldn't receive the notes, but he had come to the conclusion that that would be even worse than the harsh words.
Jeongguk suddenly stood up. He had to be by the Cabin at 3PM. What was the clock?
He grabbed all the toys sprawled over the grass, and took them inside, to then walk to the nearest clock and looking at the time. He went to his mothers bedroom to look at the digital clock, since he wasn't good at reading the other clocks yet.
3:03PM. Jeongguk gasped audibly.
He hurried to put his blue rubber boots on and grabbed the matching raincoat, remembering his mother's warnings about the change in the weather later on. He then left the house, and ran towards the forest.
After running for what seemed like forever, Jeongguk's legs protested, and he had to walk the rest of the way. Soon enough, though, he saw the Cabin, and jogged to it the best he could.
Only to find out that Taehyung wasn't there.
He sat by the door, and looked out at the lake. Taehyung couldn't scold Jeongguk for being late if he was late himself. Jeongguk looked down at his feet and started playing with the dirt on the ground, moving it around with his shoes.
Slowly, the dried dirt turned to mud.
Although Jeongguk continued to play around with it, the wet dirt was quickly washed off of his rubber boots. He could feel his coat getting heavier by the minute, the water droplets trying to pull the coat to the ground, only to find resistance in the bearer, and then giving up, falling to the ground in defeat.
Just as Jeongguk was about to walk inside of the cabin, he heard a yell. He looked to the side to see Taehyung running towards him, his face instantly beaming up. Taehyung was far away, but he could already feel the smile and happiness radiating off Tae. He decided to run to greet him.
If only he knew how difficult it was to run in mud.
If he had known, maybe he wouldn't have gotten up, and started running towards the other child. Maybe he wouldn't have picked up the speed, having missed Tae so much, that he could simply not get there quickly enough. Maybe he would have watched his step, and not carelessly have stepped into a pile of mud.
Maybe he wouldn't have fallen on his arm, breaking it.
An instant scream of pain caught Tae off-guard, and he stopped abruptly, only to speed towards the child in pain, worried about what made him utter such a heart-wrenching noise.
"Gukkie what happened?" Taehyung looked at him panicked, and tried to grab Jeongguk by the waist, only to receive more pained noises from the younger. "Where does it hurt? Tell me where does it hurt?" Taehyung's eyes were blown wide as he yelled at the younger, trying to make himself be heard above the cries from the younger.
Jeongguk didn't answer him, but simply sobbed on.
"Can you stand? We need to get you to my house, then I'll talk to mom." Jeongguk started hyperventilating, getting his breath under control being to much of a nuisance, and nodded at Taehyung. "Where does it hurt?" The older asked again.
Jeongguk pointed to his arm. Taehyung put two and two together.
While excitedly running to meet his best friend, Jeongguk had slipped in some mud, and had landed unluckily on what seemed to be his arm. But Taehyung wasn't sure. His top priority was getting Jeongguk home as quickly as possible.
It was rather tough though. The rain continued to fall harder and for every sob Taehyung heard Jeongguk give, the more the tears welled up in his own eyes. When the two boys finally entered the Kim mansion, both of them muddy and wet from head to toe, they were both sobbing messes.
Somehow Taehyung managed to explain to his mother what had happened, after she came rushing from hearing the younger of the two still sobbing loudly. It was difficult to tell his mother over the noises coming from Jeongguk, not only because of the noise level, but also because of the guilt that slowly took over Taehyung.
As his mother dialed 911, Taehyung kept glancing over at Jeongguk sitting in front of him. His sobs had died down a bit, the younger only sniffling occasionally, but still holding onto his arm with a pained expression.
Taehyung could feel the pain.
Jeongguk was in pain because of him. It wasn't Jeongguk who deserved to be sitting in Taehyung's living room, clutching his probably broken left arm. It had all happened because Taehyung had been late. It started raining after 3PM. If only he had been there at 3PM, none of this would have happened.
Jeongguk wouldn't have been in pain. They would've both been happy, sitting in their hideout watching silly videos on Tae's iPad, as the heavy rain hit the roof of the tiny cabin, keeping them secure from the outside world.
It was all Taehyung's fault.
Taehyung sniffled, and then stood up from the sofa, only to walk out of the room.
It was Taehyung's mother who went with Jeongguk in the ambulance.

Ello, here I am with a new chapter!
I'm kinda sorry for the sorta-cliffhanger and the amount of angst? but like, you can't have sunshine and rainbows all the time (Although I wish lmaooo) without a bit of rain (and mud lol too soon)
For those of you anticipating Teen!TaeKook, It won't be too long (i hope oops)! It'll not be within the next chapters, and probably not within 10 chapters either (I have a lot of things I want to write down for the first part: The Beginning), But I can sense it a bit already, and trust me, I'm looking forward to it just as much as you are!
Also thank you for 1,6k+ reads! I have no idea how it happened, but I'm so so so so soooo grateful! I love you all, where-ever you came from! I hope you enjoy this update, and look forward to the next! <3 <3
