It was in autumn that things took a turn for the worse.
Taehyung had just left his classroom after physics, and was about to meet up with some of his boarding school friends, when his phone went of. Before he could manage to read the message, he heard several other phones chime in the hallway, and he furrowed his brows, before stopping and looking down at his phone.
What was on his screen was shocking and Unforeseen. Humiliating even, but not for Taehyung.
On his phone, and on what seemed to be every single other phone on the school, was a picture of two boys, stood closely together against a wall. But Taehyung could only recognize one of them. His roommate Willam.
Taehyung quickly shut his phone down, and looked around the hallway. Many students stood with phones in their hand, and their nose almost touching the screen. The few preteens who weren't equipped with a phone in that moment, stood closely to somebody with the device.
Taehyung kept looking. But to his disappointment, the subject was nowhere to be found.
Taehyung hurried to his dorm, rushing to find Willam, to ask him about the photo. When he arrived at the dorm, he quickly realized he wasn't the only person looking for his roommate. Outside of his room a couple of girls and boys were waiting.
"Hey, what's going on?" Taehyung asked, as he looked for his dorm-key. One of the boys looked up from his phone, and showed him the picture, just in case he hadn't seen it.
"We're looking for Willam. Is he inside?" A whispered 'the homo' could be heard from the sideline, and Taehyung clenched his fist around the key, before walking to the door to open it.
"How would I know."
When Taehyung opened the door, the other kids were quick to look inside, only to turn away with disappointed groans when they realized the subject they were looking for was nowhere to be found.
As the door closed, Taehyung dropped himself onto the bed before rubbing his face with his hands. What had just happened?
As Taehyung recapped the last fifteen minutes in his head, the door suddenly slammed open. Taehyung quickly looked up, hoping that it was Willam who had arrived, only groaning silently when he realized it was Chris.
"Taehyung! Thank god you're the one here. I'm not ready to face the other one." The other one? Taehyung winced at the malice in his tone. "I can't believe it. How could I not have known? Taehyung, we've been living with a faggot for the past two years."
Taehyung's heart stopped momentarily at the mention of the hateful word.
"Oh my lord, I feel sick. I actually feel sick. We need to kick him out Taehyung. He's disgusting." Chris continued. Taehyung blinked once at the blonde boy, before he saw him leaving the room, mumbling about how he was going to apply for a room change as soon as possible.
The door slammed, and soon the silence took over Taehyung, followed by the loud thoughts.
Was kissing another boy that wrong? Why was it wrong? Chris had looked utterly disgusted as he had walked around the room, ranting. But he hadn't been the only disgusted one at the school. Why was it disgusting? Where was Willam right now? What if Taehyung had been the one in that picture? What would Jeongguk have said?
Thoughts quickly overtook Taehyung head, and before his mind tornado became the ultimate chaos, the door slammed open once again. Except this time, it was much more quiet.
Taehyung looked up to see a teary-eyed and red cheeked Willam.
"Taehyung–" he whispered. He clearly hadn't expected to see another person in the room. He was just about to leave, before Taehyung stopped him.
"Hey hey, don't leave. Just lock the door, Chris left his keys in here."
Willam stood still for a long moment, before shutting the door and locking it. He then moved to his bed, and sat down, clearly deep in thought.
"My parents are going to kill me." He then said. Taehyung's eyes widened, and he shook his head.
"They wouldn't do tha–"
"Taehyung, I'm moving schools. You're the only one of my friends I haven't heard speaking maliciously about me yet, so I wanted to tell you that as my friend and roommate." Willam quickly moved to his closet, starting to take his clothes out.
"Wait, when was this decided." Taehyung asked.
"A while ago. I just didn't know it was going to be so soon, but I have to leave now."
Before Taehyung could say anything, Willam continued. "I told my mom that basket season is starting soon on the school that I have been admitted to. I can never let her know the truth. You can't let her know okay?"
Taehyung gulped, nodding at the younger. It was shocking how things could turn upside down so quickly. What if it had been him?
"Taehyung, I never want you to be in this position, so be careful about what you do. I can hear you have a special connection with your friend– what was his name, Jeongguk, right? Just be careful." He said as he packed the rest of his suitcase. "I know Chris can be a pain in the ass, but never reveal too much. It's better showing too little, than showing too much. Don't forget it."
With those words, Willam left the school never to look back.
The rest of the months before the new year, Chris' malice towards homosexuals had become more apparent than ever. Taehyung spent almost every evening listening to Chris carp about gays and how they were wrong.
It sickened him, but he couldn't help but keep a distance to Jeongguk, when the younger called or tried to meet up with him. Their meet-ups were fewer in between, and when the home-weekends came, Taehyung often found himself occupied by the homework, and other friends.
If this was what was needed to keep Jeongguk from ending up in the same situation as Willam, Taehyung was willing to sacrifice his own feelings and need of the younger. The sadness lingering in the younger's voice as Taehyung declined another sleepover, haunted Taehyung at night.
The world was surely a twisted place.

Hello wonderful people! Welcome to the end of this chapter.
I'm sorry this didn't involve too much Tae, and even less TaeKook, but sacrifices have to be made for the story to continue down it's fated path. </3
I know some of you didn't like Chris before, but after this, I'm anticipating him being one of the most hated characters of this story. But it's okay. In this book, you can be angry at Chris.
LUFTA: I broke my phone Friday (i dropped it into the toilet and she! drowned), and so I've been freaking out about saving data and buying a new phone and such. I apologize if this chapter was a mess, but my head is just as much of a mess. ;_;
Don't forget to vote and comment if you want TaeKook to get together and be fluffy soon (cuz I do ;;)! <3
