February Night

Chapter 26

"Well, we...uhm...", Spencer stammered and fidgeted with his hands, desperately searching for the right words. He couldn't hide it anymore anyway right now, he knew that. He would have to finally tell the truth. So, it would be best to just do it right now. "We're a couple, okay?", he then eventually let out and watched everyone's jaws drop. Well, except for Luke's. He was just sitting there, slightly smirking. And Spencer wondered if he had known already. Had Lucy told him?

"Seriously?", JJ asked and turned Spencer's attention back to the others. He nodded and Penelope instantly threw her arms around his neck and squealed.

"Oh, my god, that's amazing! I always thought you two would make a cute couple!", she exclaimed, what made Spencer chuckle.

"Oh, you did?" He was amused by his friend's reaction and now realized that Emily and Rossi had joined them to find out what was going on. They quickly got the news and to Spencer's surprise, they all congratulated him and were happy that he finally found someone. He smiled happily while his team gave him hugs.

"She seems to be the right one for you, kid", Rossi said as he patted Spencer's back.

"She's so lovely and wonderful, of course she's the right one for Spencer!", Penelope exclaimed, still overly excited over the news. But Spencer couldn't say anything in response, he already got pulled into JJ's arms.

"I'm so happy for you, Spence", she whispered into his ear and Spencer couldn't help but smile widely. JJ was his best friend, it meant the world to him that she approved of this relationship. He quickly rubbed her back.

"Thank you, JJ." He pulled away again and looked at the team. The family, they had become to him over all these years. They were all happily smiling at him.

"Hey, Reid." Luke had gotten up from his chair and came over too.

"Yeah?"

"I know you won't do that but...if you'll break my sister's heart we'll have a huge problem." He looked serious but Spencer could see it in his eyes that Luke was joking. Kind of, at least he thought so. Of course, Luke would protect his sister, no matter what.

"Don't worry, that won't happen", Spencer promised with a smile as Luke patted his back. With that gesture, he told Spencer that he approved as well that his sister was with his work colleague.

The same evening, Luke decided to visit his sister. He wanted to hear from her what was going on between her and Spencer. Lucy was surprised to see Luke standing in front of her door. She had thought Spencer would show up after work, but she didn't have to hide any disappointment. She was always happy to see her brother. "Come in", she said smiling and stepped aside to let him in.

With a cup of coffee, they both sat on Lucy's couch. Silence had fallen over them for almost two minutes. "Come on, ask what you want to", Lucy eventually said while she glanced at Luke. He raised an eyebrow.

"Why do you think I want to ask you something?"

"Well, you might be the profiler here, but I've known you all my life, you're my brother. And I can see when there's something that's burning on your tongue. Spit it out." She hustled against his shoulder to encourage him.

"Okay", Luke sighed as he put his cup back on the coffee table. "You and Spencer are a thing, right?"

Lucy's heart sank at Luke's words. He knew it. "Did Spencer tell you?"

Luke nodded. "He did, indeed. Well, Penelope basically forced him to." He grinned at the memory of earlier today. For a moment, Lucy examined her brother, then she turned around on the couch to properly face him.

"Did you actually sense anything when you said you couldn't drive me home after we were in that Chinese restaurant?" She suddenly remembered that evening and now had a feeling like Luke had already known that Spencer and Lucy liked each other but couldn't confess it. The grin that now appeared on his face, said more than a thousand words.

"Oh, you!", Lucy exclaimed and acted as if she was outraged. But Luke just laughed and put an arm around her shoulder to pull her a bit closer.

"I didn't really know. It was just a feeling. The two of you spent quite a lot of time together and the way Spencer supported you through all this stuff with Damien Peters...I thought maybe you liked each other more than you wanted to admit. And I obviously was right." He chuckled.

"Thank you for making Spencer driving me home", Lucy said with a smile now and Luke didn't have to ask any further. "You're okay with that?"

"With what?"

"With...me and Spencer being together." Although Lucy was old enough and didn't need Luke's approval at all, she wanted to know what he thought. He shifted on the couch and pulled her closer.

"Lu, there's no man I could imagine better to be by your side. He's one of the best guys I know", he then said with a smile and Lucy threw her arms around his neck. It meant a lot to her that her brother supported her and her relationship.

"Would you like to stay for dinner?" Lucy had planned to cook some spaghetti Carbonara tonight and there'd be more than enough food for two people. Luke nodded and got up from the couch, grabbing his cup of coffee on the way.

"Only if you'll let me help", he said grinning and Lucy knew she wouldn't have a choice.

The siblings were busy getting everything prepared for the sauce when the doorbell rang. Luke glanced at Lucy inquiringly, but when she smiled at him he knew who was standing in front of her door.

Only seconds later, Lucy came back, dragging Spencer with her. Their smiles were both so big, Luke couldn't help but laugh. "Hey, Reid", he greeted him and they shook hands. Of course, Spencer would help preparing dinner too and soon they were all sitting at the table, enjoying a delicious meal. Lucy was happy. She had the two most important men in her life sitting there with her and joking around. Only a month or two ago she wouldn't have even dared to dream of being this happy. And now...she was. She couldn't believe it. Spencer shot her a smile and reached out to put her hand in his. And Lucy's heart jumped in her chest. It always did whenever Spencer touched her or gave her one of his gorgeous smiles.
