February Night

Chapter 73

"Do you think we should tell the others?", Lucy murmured late at night, when she and Spencer were lying in bed, their legs entangled with each other, their bodies as close to each other as possible. They've had an amazing dinner and then got home to celebrate their engagement. It was way past midnight when they finally decided to get some sleep. But Lucy still felt awake. She was so happy, she couldn't even put it into words.

Spencer didn't reply instantly. Instead, he stroked Lucy's bare shoulder and kissed the back of her hand. He entangled their fingers with each other. "Hmm...I guess Garcia and Luke will find out soon anyway. They just know us", Spencer then said. Lucy giggled. Well, he was right. They wouldn't be able to keep this a secret for long. So, why even hide it? There was no reason for it.

"Let's call our parents tomorrow morning and tell them before you go to work. And then...I'll join you to the BAU and we can tell the team and my brother", Lucy suggested and Spencer immediately agreed.

"That sounds like a good plan, future wife", he smirked.

"Sometimes I'm able to develop some good plans, future husband", she replied; the same smirk on her lips.

And that was what they did after getting up and taking a shower the next morning: calling their parents. Or in Spencer's case: his mom. "Hi mom", he said before taking a sip of his coffee.

"Hello, Spencer. How are you?", she greeted him and the smile on his face grew even wider.

"Well, I'm doing really good. Listen, I've got some news for you, mom."

"Oh, what news? Good news?" She sounded interested and Spencer could hear, that she seemed to have a good day.

"I...I proposed to Lucy and she said yes!", he exclaimed excitedly.

"Oh, Spencer! That's wonderful! She's a lovely girl and you deserve to have a good girl by your side", Diana said and Spencer could swear she had tears in her eyes right now.

"You're not going to cry, mom, aren't you?", Spencer asked chuckling.

"Oh, you silly! You're my boy, my only boy! Of course, I'm about to cry! You're going to be married!"

Spencer laughed at his mother's words and to hear how happy she was about those news, made him even happier than he had been before, if that was possible.

While Spencer was talking to his mom, Lucy was preparing her own coffee and calling her parents. "Dad, it's me, Lucy. Is mom with you?", she said as soon as she could hear her father's voice.

"Uhm...yeah, she is. Wait a second." When Lucy heard, her mom had joined her dad, she couldn't hold back the news any longer.

"Spencer proposed to me!", she exclaimed laughing. For a moment, there was nothing heard from the other side of the line.

"He did what?!", Lucy's mother then exclaimed.

"He asked me to marry him", Lucy chuckled and covered her mouth with one hand to hold back any more giggles. She was just so excited, like a child.

"Oh, my god, that's amazing!", her mother literally shouted into the phone.

"Ouch, my ears!", Lucy's father complained what made Lucy laugh again. She was so glad both her parents approved that next step in hers and Spencer's relationship. She would have married him anyway, but knowing that her parents were happy for her was just the best.

After the phone call, Lucy went back into the living room, were Spencer was sitting; the biggest smile on his face. He reached out his arms towards Lucy and she let him pull her close to him. Giggling, Lucy snuggled into Spencer's embrace while she held up her left hand to admire the sparkling ring on her finger. "Spencer, it's just the most beautiful engagement ring I've ever seen", she quietly said and then turned her head to press a kiss on his lips.

He smiled. "I'm glad you like it so much. But...I have to go now. Will you join me like we planned?"

Of course, Lucy would join Spencer at the bureau this morning. They had big news for the team and she couldn't wait to see Luke's and especially Penelope's reactions. Excitedly, the couple made its way to the bureau. Holding hands, they entered the huge glass door some time later. The rest of the team was already there, sitting or standing around some desks and having a chat.

"Oh, look who's here!", Rossi let out and grabbed Lucy's face as soon as they were close enough, to press two kisses on her cheeks.

"Hi", Lucy grinned.

"What brings you here?", Emily asked and Spencer and Lucy quickly exchanged looks.

"Well...", Spencer then said, took Lucy's left hand and held it up so everyone could see the sparkling ring on her finger. Penelope was the first to squeal out loud.

"Oh, my god! Oh, my god!" She jumped up and down, before she threw her arms around Lucy's neck. "I'm so happy for you, guys!", she screamed into Lucy's ear.

"I'm happy too", Lucy laughed and gently pulled away again. Penelope beamed at her, tears streaming down her face. "Oh no, please don't cry." Lucy quickly gave her friend another hug.

"I'm just so happy!", Penelope sobbed and then hurried to get a tissue and carefully dry her tears. In the meantime, Lucy and Spencer accepted the congratulations from the rest of the team.

"I can't believe my little sister is going to be married", Luke said, shaking his head. There was the biggest grin on his face when he spread his arms and Lucy threw herself into her brother's embrace. "I'm so happy for you, Lu. Congrats", he whispered and Lucy wrapped her arms even closer around Luke. "Did you already tell our parents?"

"Yup, I did, like an hour ago. Mom literally freaked out", Lucy chuckled and the grin on Luke's face grew even wider.

"I can imagine."

After getting a hug from all the others, Lucy went back to Penelope and grabbed her hands. "Uhm...Pen, I wanted to ask if you...if you wanted to be my maid of honor?", Lucy asked and Penelope burst out in tears once again.

"What? Seriously?", she sobbed.

Lucy nodded. "Yeah, seriously."

"Of course, I want to!", Penelope then exclaimed and went to tell everyone. She was so excited, Lucy couldn't help but laugh. It made her happy to see her friend like this.

"Are you sure you want Penelope to plan your bachelorette party and all that stuff?", Luke asked his sister. She boxed into his ribs. "Ouch!"

"Of course, I am, Luke! She's perfect for this job", Lucy said with a smile. Spencer joined the siblings and wrapped his arm around Lucy's waist.

"And who's gonna be your best man, Reid?", Luke asked his future brother-in-law. Spencer grinned.

"Oh, I know who. But first I'll have to make a phone call", he said, before he pressed a kiss on Lucy's temple and then left to the conference room. No matter how happy everyone was about the upcoming wedding of Lucy and Spencer, work had to be done.

"I can't wait to plan everything, my dear! It's going to be epic!", Penelope excitedly exclaimed, gave Lucy one last hug and then hurried into the same room as Spencer. Chuckling, Lucy left the bureau some minutes later, feeling the happiest in years.
