Fully in awe, Lucy and Spencer both watched a midwife bringing the twins into Lucy's room. They were both awake, as she could see. "It's good for the babies to have physical contact, especially to their parents", the midwife explained while she carefully took the baby girl out of the bed and put it into Spencer's arms. He slightly gasped.
"Wow", he whispered as he stared at the little human in his arms. Lucy watched him with the biggest smile. She knew he'd be an amazing father.
"Here's your son." The midwife now came to Lucy and gave her the boy. He was as beautiful as his sister. Both, Spencer and Lucy, were overwhelmed by the feelings they had right now while they looked at their twins.
"I can't believe they're ours", Spencer murmured, his eyes still fixed on his daughter. The baby curiously looked at its dad. "Can you believe we...we've made them? They're existing just because of us?" Spencer was obviously in awe and couldn't hold himself together anymore. He rambled about how awesome it was to have created two humans at once and Lucy just listened to him while she stared at the baby boy in her arms. Spencer was right. It was incredible. Truly a miracle.
"Did you call your mother already?", Lucy quietly asked. It was the only negative thing during those days: That Diana Reid couldn't be here to meet her grandchildren. Lucy was sure that Spencer's mom would have been in awe as well.
Spencer nodded. "Yeah, I did. Thankfully she had a good day. She's happy for us and happy to be a grandma now. She can't wait to meet our babies. I hope...we can visit her anytime soon."
Lucy reached out a hand and took his free one, squeezing it. "We absolutely can. Lots of people fly with their babies somewhere. We can do it too, whenever you want."
A knock on the door forced Lucy and Spencer to stop their conversation and look up. "Come in!" The door slowly opened and much to Lucy's delight, her parents, followed by Luke and the whole BAU team.
"Hi!", Lucy's mom said and rushed over to greet her daughter and the newborn twins. Lucy let everyone gush over how cute the babies were before she asked everyone to just listen to her and Spencer.
"We would like to introduce you guys to Tessa Malou and Mateo Derek", she said with a smile and glanced at the babies. Spencer had joined Lucy in the hospital bed and now they were both sitting in there, each holding a baby in their arms. The team was moved.
"Derek for...for our...Derek?", Penelope asked, tears shimmering in her eyes.
Spencer nodded. "Yeah. He's done so much for me in the past and...I just wanted to give something back", he explained.
"And Tessa for your best friend, dear?", Lucy's mother asked.
"When we were kids, Tessa and I once said we'd give our babies – if they'd be girls – the name of each other. It was more a joke but...I thought about it again some weeks ago and Spencer and I decided to give our baby girl Tessa's name."
"This is so cute and beautiful!", Penelope cried and came to give Lucy and Spencer a hug.
Spencer chuckled. "Someone give Garcia a tissue, please. She's going to cry once more", he grinned.
"What? Why?", Penelope asked, clearly confused.
"Because...we'd like you and Luke to be Tessa's godparents", Spencer explained and the smile on his face was so big, it literally went from one ear to the other. Penelope's jaw dropped and her eyes widened.
"Are you serious?!", she asked and of course, there were new tears filling her eyes. She was just such an emotional person – Lucy could understand it, she was the same. Situations like those made her tear up sometimes.
"Of course, we are. We couldn't think of someone better for our little girl", Lucy said, smiling. And found herself back in Penelope's arms.
"It's an honor! Oh, my god, thank you!", Penelope cried. Luke was moved as well and came to thank the couple for choosing him as a godfather for one of their children. For Lucy and Spencer, it had been obvious from the beginning of Lucy's pregnancy. Luke and Penelope would be godparents. They couldn't think of anybody doing it better than them. And when they had found out it would be twins, they had to think of two more persons. Of course, someone from Spencer's BAU team.
"Matt, JJ, would you...would you be Mateo's godparents?", Spencer asked.
"What a question! Of course!", JJ exclaimed and Matt nodded as well, a big smile on his face. They all felt honored that Spencer and Lucy had chosen them to be godparents to their babies.
"Can I hold her?", Penelope asked, glancing at Tessa.
"Sure." Spencer handed his daughter over to the technical analyst.
"Oh my, so cute", Penelope squealed. Everyone laughed. Lucy had handed Mateo to Luke and her brother obviously was in awe. Spencer and Lucy both watched the team and the grandparents holding the babies, gushing over them once more and they were just incredibly happy. Spencer wrapped an arm around Lucy and she snuggled into his embrace.
"I love you. You've done amazing so far", he murmured and kissed her. Lucy sighed and her eyes wandered through the room, where her babies were somewhere in someone's arms being looked after very well.
"I love you, too, Spencer. I'm so happy, I don't even know what to say", she eventually replied.
"Yeah, me too."
When JJ came over, holding Tessa in her arms, the couple stopped their conversation. "She's really beautiful", JJ said with a smile as she placed the baby into Lucy's arms. It was the first time, Lucy could hold her daughter and once again, a wave of the strongest love she had ever felt rushed over her.
"Henry and Michael can't wait to meet your twins. Henry already said that he wants to hold the babies when he meets them", JJ said giggling. Lucy looked up at her friend again and laughed.
"Oh, he can totally hold them when you come to visit us with Will and the boys." Lucy tried to hold back a yawn while saying this. She was tired again and right now, she kind of wished that everyone would leave so she could be alone with Spencer and the twins. And it was as if Emily sensed this.
"Guys, we've got work to do in the bureau. We should go now." Emily leaned down to kiss Lucy's cheek and Spencer's as well and then opened the door and made a gesture towards her team. They all hurried to say goodbye to the new young family.
"I'll come back tomorrow, if that's alright", Penelope said, having a hard time leaving the babies. She kissed their tiny fingers and cheeks repeatedly.
Lucy chuckled. "That's fine."
"Garcia, come on now! Don't scribble all your lipstick all over their cute faces", Luke said, what made Penelope gasp.
"Hey, there's no lipstick on their faces, okay? It's a kiss-proof one I'm wearing today!", she exclaimed as she followed him out of the room. Everyone laughed. It was typical for those two to act like this.
"Sweetheart, we'll stay in town for another five days", Lucy's father said before he leaned down and kissed his daughter's forehead. "If you need anything, tell us. And of course, we'll come back tomorrow as well to see our precious little grandchildren again." A blessed grin formed on his face as he gently stroked the babies' heads. After Lucy's parents had left as well, both, Spencer and Lucy let out a sigh.
"Sometimes I'm just glad when everyone's gone", Spencer murmured and let a hand run through his messy hair. Lucy nodded. She was tired and leaned her head against Spencer's shoulder. Just in that moment, Tessa started to cry – for the first time in two hours!
"Oh no", Lucy murmured, rocking the baby in her arms. It didn't help at all. And when Mateo started to cry as well, it was obvious that the babies were hungry. Spencer pressed the red emergency button and seconds later, a nurse entered their room. She saw what the problem was and smiling, she left again to prepare two bottles for the babies. It had been clear from the beginning, that Lucy wouldn't breast feed the babies. She just didn't have enough milk for both. So, they'd be fed by bottle.
