I walk into History class behind Elena and sit in front of her; so that I'm in the front row. We're supposed to be having a new permanent teacher today and the bell rings, and we see Bonnie coming in followed by a man in his early thirties. "Good morning, everyone. Alrighty." He says, setting his stuff down on the desk and turns to the chalkboard, writing down his name with the white chalk in his right hand. He turns back to us and wipes his hands on his jeans after setting the chalk down. "Alaric Saltzman." He says, pointing to his first name and then to his last name with his right index finger, and puts his hand down, smiling at us. "It's a mouthful. I know. Doesn't exactly roll off the tongue. Saltzman is of German origins. My family emigrated here in seventeen fifty-five to Texas. I, however, was born and raised in Boston. Now the name Alaric belongs to a very dead great-grandfather I will never be able to thank enough. You'll probably want to pronounce 'Ala-ric' but it's 'A-lar-ic,' ok? So, you can call me Rick. I'm your new history teacher." He says.
I'm sitting with Bonnie and Elena outside as Bonnie spilled the beans about her being a witch to me and she's talking about her ancestor, Emily. "And then, I ended up at the remains of the old Fell's church before I woke up back in the woods." She says. "And you always see your ancestor Emily?" I ask and she nods. "Do you believe in ghosts?" She asks. "Totally." I say. "Two weeks ago I'd say no, but now.." Elena says. "Because I think I'm being haunted." Bonnie says. "I don't get it. Why Emily?" Elena asks. "Grams said she was a powerful witch back in the Civil War days, and that this medallion was hers." Bonnie says, touching her amber necklace with her right hand. "A witch's talisman." She says and lets it go. "And it all started when you got the necklace?" I ask and she nods. "I think she's using it to communicate with me." She says. "Ok, and what does Grams say about it?" Elena asks. "I can't call her. She's gonna tell me to embrace it. I don't want to embrace it, I want it to stop." Bonnie says and Elena sighs.
I'm in the backseat of Bonnie's car as she's driving and Elena is in the passenger seat, and we're talking about Damon. "He's bad news, Elena, Adam. He really scared me." Bonnie says. "You need to stay as far away from Damon as possible." Elena says. "Totally." I say. "I'm trying He just keeps showing up." Bonnie says. "I don't want you to be alone. You're sleeping at my place tonight, we can make a whole night out of it. And you're coming too, Adam." She says and I fake sigh. "Fine. But you're not doing my hair or nails or anything like that." I say and Bonnie pulls over to the side of the road; onto the grass. "Woah." Elena and I say at the same time, and Bonnie quickly gets out of the car. "Where are you going?" Elena asks and Bonnie shuts her door with her right hand, walking towards the edge of the field and throws the necklace that's in her right hand as far as she can, and walks back to the car and gets in. "Are you okay?" I ask. "Now I am. All my problems were because of that thing. I can't believe I didn't do that sooner." Bonnie says, looking between Elena and I. "What's your Grams gonna say?" Elena asks. "Grams isn't the one being haunted by a hundred and fifty year old ghost, is she?" Bonnie asks and Elena sighs. "Ok, then." She says and Bonnie buckles up, and drives off.
I'm outside on the porch with Stefan and Elena as it's nighttime, and we're talking about Damon and Bonnie. "He threatened her, Stefan." Elena says. "What would Damon want with Bonnie?" Stefan asks. "She has this necklace. Caroline got it from Damon, and she gave it to Bonnie." I say. "And now Damon wants it back. He's tormenting her." Elena says. "Over a necklace." Stefan says. "It's not just any necklace. It has to do with Bonnie's heritage. It belonged to one of her ancestors who lived here during the Civil War.. when you and Damon lived here." I say and Stefan crosses his arms. "Her name was Emily. She was Katherine's and Dimitri's handmaiden and a witch." He says. "You know?" Elena asks and Stefan nods. "About Bonnie?" Elena whispers. "The first night that you two invited me over for dinner, I made the connection." He says. "And now Damon knows, and for some reason he wants that necklace." I say. "What does it look like?" He asks. "It's an antique iron setting with a--" Elena says and Stefan interrupts her. "With an amber crystal. I know it. It belonged to Katherine. Emily gave it to her, which means that.." He says and stops. "What?" I ask. "I don't know, but I'm gonna find out. Let me talk to Damon." He says. "Will he tell you?" Elena asks and Stefan sighs. "I'll-- I'll get it out of him." He says and walks off.
