It's a little over a week after I heard about Elena killing the waitress in Willoughby as I was asleep in our hotel room and now I'm sitting on the sofa while Damon and Stefan are passing a football back and forth to each other. "So how long's it been? Eight, nine days?" Damon asks. "Yeah, eight or nine days. I don't know, I lost count." Stefan says. "Definitely nine. She killed three people two days after we got back from Willoughby." I say, sipping on my first mug of coffee. "If we lost count of the consecutive days in which Elena Gilbert has not killed anyone, I'd say that's progress. It doesn't count that Smartass knows how many consecutive days because he remembers probably everything." Damon says and Stefan holds onto the football. "Definitely true." I say, giving a small laugh. "So what are we gonna do, just, ah, throw the football around for another 150 years till Elena gets her humanity back? Because I'm cool with that." Stefan says and throws the football. "She doesn't want the Cure. She's gonna start killing people if she knows we're still trying to get it for her." Damon says and they continue to toss the football back and forth. "All right. We could always, ah, make her want it." Stefan says. "Yeah, how're you gonna make an emotionless vampire want anything?" I ask, confused. "Get her to flip her humanity switch. I don't know why you're not her trigger. I guess she just can't process that you're alive or something because you're her last living relative." Stefan says as they look at me. "She's in pure denial." I say. "So what are we gonna do? Pull a Lexi and bombard her with emotions till one of them sticks?" Damon asks. "Yeah, and if that doesn't work, then we go to Plan B. Lock her up, keep her sidelined until the three of us figure out a Plan C." Stefan says. "And what happens when she gets slammed with every emotion she's repressed since Jeremy died?" Damon asks. "Well, then, my friends, will be right by her side, ready to help her through it." Stefan says. "Right. 'Cause you don't wanna keep reliving history, and when this is all over you're just gonna get out of her life." Damon says, taking a few steps towards him and Stefan gives an unconvincing smile. "Bingo." He says. "All right. How do you wanna do this?" Damon asks.
It's nighttime as Kol and I arrive to Rebekah's mansion with Stefan in the limo with us as we see Elna walk down the steps in a red dress as it's Prom tonight and it's Masquerade themed as she's holding a pink mask with baby blue designs on them and we get out as Stefan is holding a bouquet of roses. "I don't need a babysitter." Elena says, walking over to us. "Really?" I ask. "Yeah, Because the last time I saw you, you snapped a waitress' spine." Stefan says. "Got you to stop your search for the Cure, didn't it?" Elena asks and turns around to walk away, but Damon vampspeeds to block her path. "Yep. We're just here to make sure you hold up your end of the deal. Don't eat the Prom Queen." Damon says, pointing at her and holds up a rose corsage. "May I?" He asks and Elena crosses her arms as I adjust Kol's tux a little and fix my bowtie. "No." She says and Damon grabs her wrist, putting it on her. "Wow, would you look at that. Aw. Beautiful dress." Elena says. "Thank you." Elena says and turns around. "I stole it." She says, walking to the limo and gets in, closing the door behind her as the four of us stare at each other.
We're walking down the red carpet to Prom as we see a slideshow of pictures left and right as Elena is holding onto a Salvatore Brother by each arm and I'm holding onto Stefan's free arm and Kol's right arm. "Where's the disco ball?" Kol ask. "Caroline's been working on this for a while. It's a, ah, photo yearbook of the senior class." Stefan says and we stop at a photo of Matt and Elena from Freshman year. "Isn't that photo from, ah, the first day of freshman year?" I ask. "Mom took that when she dropped us off at school." Elena says and it changes to Elena, Jeremy and I at summer camp the year before the car accident off Wickery Bridge. "I'm gonna get a seizure if I keep staring at these screens." Elena says, taking her jacket off and see her rush in as Kol and I walk in a different direction to go dance.
Kol and I meet up with Caroline, Elena and Stefan as Caroline looks amazing in her silvery, diamond dress; most likely from Klaus after we've been eating food and taking a bunch of selfies. "Are you kidding me? You look like a backstabbing bi.." Caroline says and stops herself. "The dress is beautiful, and it brings out your eyes." She says and Elena fake smiles at her. "Thanks. I thought I'd do it a favor." Elena says and Caroline is about to say something, but Stefan interrupts her. "Caroline. Why don't you come dance with me?" Stefan asks, offering his hand and she hesitantly takes it and they walk off. "May have this dance, darling?" Kol asks, offering me his hand, grinning and I smile up at him, putting my hand in his. "You may." I say and we walk over to Stefan and Caroline. "know you said to kill her with kindness, but can't I just kill her?" She asks and we all laugh. "I see you found a dress." Stefan says. "It's from Klaus." She says. "Mm." Stefan says, smiling. "Don't ask." She says. "You know you have him wrapped around your little finger, right darling?" Kol asks as I have one hand on his shoulder and the other in his free hand as he puts his other hand around my waist; just like Stefan and Caroline. "If I had Klaus wrapped around my finger, then I would be here with Tyler right now. Are you guys making any progress with the dress thief?" She asks as we glance at Elena and shake our heads. "I don't know. I think it's affecting me a lot more than it's affecting her." Stefan says. "What do you mean?" I ask, confused. "Every time I tell myself that I'm moving on, there's this part of me that just can't seem to shake her." He says. "That's normal, Stefan. You guys were in love, and that doesn't go away just because you declare that you're moving on." Caroline says. "Well, then how does anyone ever seem to move on?" He asks as Kol and I dance by ourselves, giggling as he dips me. "You're a really great dancer." I say, smiling and we hear Caroline talking. "I don't know. I think that someday, you'll meet someone new and you'll fall madly in love, and you'll have moved on without even realizing it." She says and Kol smiles down at me. "Not so bad yourself, darling." He says and kisses my cheek.
I'm with Damon and Caroline as Kol went to go get us bunch. "Aren't you on 'Save Elena' duty?" She asks him. "I'm taking a little breather." He says and Caroline exhales. "This prom sucks. This is our last dance together, and it's awful. This is not how I wanted to remember this night." She says and Klaus offers her his flask and he nods. "Thank you." She says, taking it and take a sip of it as Damon exhales and Caroline and I both sigh, handing it back to Damon. "Well, if anyone asks, I'll be at the after-party." Caroline says and walks off and see Bonnie arrive with Kol without the punch. "We have a problem." She says.
Bonnie is explaining to us about what happened with Silas as Matt and Stefan have joined us. "It's like Jeremy was there. I could talk to him, feel him." She says. "Bonnie, that's what Silas does. You can't let him get to you again." Stefan says as we look at him. "Yeah, because you all crazy and brainwashed is just not a good look." Damon says. "Especially since you're infused with Expression, kind of like Jean Gray, but I think that's my department now since I'm actually a phoenix." I say and we see April go on stage. "Hey. Okay, the ballots have been tallied, which means it's time to announce this year's Prom King and Queen." She says and we continue talking. "Look, one of us should take her home." Stefan says. "What? no. She's safer here in public around all these people. There's no way Silas can make everyone see the same thing all at once. And maybe Smartass is immune or something since the whole not being compelled thing. Shane was just a lunatic as it is, so he doesn't count." Damon says. "Okay, in the meantime, how do we look out for a guy that can appear as anyone?" Matt asks. "All right, your Prom King and queen are.. Matt Donovan and Bonnie Bennett." April announces and we all applause as the stage light is pointed at the two of them and they walk towards the stage as she's holding onto Matt's arm and stop at the stage to get crowned.
I'm with Kol as we're sipping on some spiked lemonade. "I'm guessing whoever spiked this is a genius because I think we're all gonna need it after tonight. It's been a crazy night." I say and we the lights flicker and one of them bursts out as we all scream and evacuate the building, only to see Bonnie run out the door.
It's the middle of the night after Prom as I wake up to get some water and walk into Klaus' study as Kol is asleep and see Klaus reaching for a letter. "What's that?" I ask, confused as I read it's for Klaus and he turns it over and we see a red wax seal with the letter K on it. "Klaus, I hear Elijah has refused you the cure and in return, you have refused me my freedom. Shame on you both. But while you boys sort out your problems, I have one last thing to offer you. I've caught wind that there is a witch in New Orleans named Jane-Anne Deveraux plotting a move against you. Hunt her down. What she has to say will rattle you so deeply to your core that chasing little old me will be the least of your concerns. It's been a fun five centuries, Klaus, but I've worn down too many good heels running from you. Love, and hate, Katerina." I read aloud. "I guess you're going to New Orleans?" I ask. "Yes. Would you and Kol like to come with, luv?" He asks and I wrap my arms around his neck, hugging him. "Of course!" I exclaim.
