EVAN POV

Evan held Connor's hand tightly as they sat in the waiting room. Months of waiting and the day was finally here. Evan glanced up at his husband, who's eyes were tearing up. He was an emotional mess, and Evan wasn't much better.

A short woman with long blonde hair poked her head through the door. "Hansen?" She called cheerfully. The couple stood up quickly and followed the woman, who led them into a room with a man and a girl who was about three years old. "There's your girl!" The woman said smiling, gesturing to the beaming toddler.

"Daddy?" The girl asked softly. Evan started crying. He couldn't help it. She was absolutely perfect.

"That's right, baby. We're gonna be your dads." Connor managed to choke out. The girl squealed and ran over to them, wrapping her little arms around their legs. Evan crouched down so they were at eye level. Her scraggly blonde hair was a mess of curls and her big hazel eyes seemed to be filled to the brim with love.

"Hi, honey." Evan said quietly. The girl reached up and touched his nose softly.

"Hi, dad." She said sweetly, causing Evan to break down. He felt Connor's reassuring arms around him and their new daughter.

"You're going to need a name." The man said, finally speaking up. "We've been calling her Seven, but it's up to you." Connor gave Evan that look when they both knew what the other was thinking. Connor stood and spoke with the man for a few moments as Evan sat on the ground with his new daughter. When they were finally permitted to leave, Evan slung the girl onto his hip.

As Evan drove them home, Connor sat in the backseat with their daughter. "So we have this awesome house. We already painted your room, but you can pick a different color if you want.." Connor was saying. Evan glanced into the mirror and smiled fondly at Connor. "We have this tree in the backyard that we planted when we moved...his name is Arnold the Second. It's a long story..." he continued.

"Con, show her your nails." Evan said, smiling.

"Oh! Oh yeah." Connor realized, showing her his pink glittery nails. "We read on your bio paper that you love pink and glitter so I decided to paint my nails to match...do you like them?" The girl gently tapped his nails and beamed.

"I love them!" She squealed, throwing her arms around Connor's neck. Evan watched the whole thing, grinning. He turned his attention back to the road as his eyes watered a bit.

As he pulled into the driveway, he opened the door for his husband and daughter. Evan scooped up the girl and carried her into the house. She giggled and pointed around at everything as she was shown through her new home. Evan couldn't be happier. The look on Connor's face showed that he was also overjoyed.

"Do you like it, princess?" He asked her softly.

"Down!" She said enthusiastically, prompting Evan to place her on the ground so she could explore.

Evan took Connor's hand as the girl followed to her new room. They had spent days painting it purple and blue, the other two colors that her bio had stated she liked. Evan stopped, noticing the girl standing in the doorway, looking at the room in awe.

"For me?" She asked breathlessly.

"For you." Connor said, smiling at her. Evan crouched down and smiled at her, finally using her name.

"Welcome home, Marigold."
